The plastic step down ring that mounts to the rubber bellows comes out a LOT and is difficult to put back in. It has been implied by someone at O'Connor that there was a defective part and that a new one has been created to replace it (and I have no further information about it but am researching). Anyone else have this problem?

Mine screws in, does yours not?

I have the same problem until I just used glue to make a seal. The problem is there's nothing to lock it in. The rubber is being held by a plastic lip.

I have the same problem. It drives me crazy, especially if it pops out mid shoot.

There was an updated part sometime in 2011.

I still have my old one, I've been told I could send my old one in and get it replaced for the revised part.

Someday I'll do it.

Jake - can you elaborate? Does it go in and then a short turn to lock? Is that what you mean?[/.

I was thinking you were referring to the screw in step down rings but you mean the part that they screw into comes separated from the rubber bellows. Yes it happens sometimes but isn't super fragile, mostly happens if I press down on the adapter...

The biggest problem i have with my o box is that the hinges for the flags seem to seize up. so bad that i cant even use my top flag anymore. Which is pretty lame. Read that several others had this problem. Emailed oconner about 3 times now, and no response at all. Not too pleased with their customer service.

I have the same problem with the O-box. I have had to glue the rubber part of the bellows to the retaining ring. Its fits fine once effectively glued, but without the gluing it down, it continually separates. Trick is to find a glue that does not make too much mess that will also stick the rubber to the plastic. I did find a glue that worked and tried it one one side where the plastic and rubber join, then lost it, and haven't found a suitable glue to do the job since for the other side. Can't remember the one that adhered well either, so one side still comes away as other glues have not worked well. If anyone can recommend a suitable glue for this application please let me know.
I like Oconnor products in general, but also think Oconnor's customer service is very poor. I have tried to contact them multiple times in the past about having my tripod head serviced and have never received a response. I have been considering their follow focus but the poor customer service response issue make me think twice.

Talk to Dave Patton for LA dave.patton@vitecgroup.com or Randy Frisch for NY Randy.frisch@vitecgroup.com. I had the same issue, and Dave told me that the lubicant for the joints is worn off and/or I could just use some 60 grit sand paper on the joints because its a 1mm to thick for proper clearance. Sanded the joints down, and works perfectly now.

I thought I was the only one! This issue drives me crazy....

I hope this is the case. Maybe Eric from O'Connor can chime in here.

Hi Guy's,

My Name is Steve Turner and I am Product Manager for OConnor and am responsible for all the products.

There are 3 issues on this thread.

Firstly the C1243-1117 Bellows Ring. On older units the TPE had a lower shore hardness and will indeed come loose. It is correct that sometime during 2011 we made a change to a stiffer TPE and also added a couple of small dovetail returns to help captivate it. It can still come loose however but should do so much less often. Please contact me directly if you are still having problems.

Secondly the seizing of the Flag axles. This should be directed to the contacts in John Carr's thread. These axles should not seize and so this needs to be addressed.

Finally. Poor customer service. We aim to address all concerns, particularly when it regards the quality of our products. If you have any issues resolving issues through customer service, please contact me directly with the details of the problem and I will see what I can do to help.

Kindest Regards,

Steven Turner

Steve.. Nice to have you chime in.. I have also had the "Flag axles" seize. I had to take it apart , sand down the axles and applied a very small about of Vaseline.

Because the shaft is tapered slightly to eliminate axial float we found that in early units if the incorrect amount of lubricant added, or if the split line on the axle had been incorrectly cleaned, the tapers can seize. We have improved this, We have also since the early units added a small o-ring between the clamp bracket on the sunshade and the base of the tapered shaft on the axle to further keep these 2 components from wedging together.

I have mailed you a drawing to further explain.
