  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

anyone else freaked out?

At night I cry myself to sleep in fear that zombies will eat my brains like ice cream.

Nope.

We've got it so good. And as a whole we've overextended ourselves so I see a natural correction that hopefully won't become a psychological recession greater than the real thing.

I think what popped was the notion that the American People still were solvent. In order to maintain our way of life we've been borrowing. Borrowing against our houses to pay bills. Borrowing to go to college. But the policies remained which continued to drain the middle and bottom classes at the expense of ideological dream started 30 years ago.

I'm afraid we'll bunker down and start saving, only looking out for ourselves and destroy our economy by being too sensible. I'm concerned we'll pull our attention away from the world and look inward thinking this is a time to solve our own problems and that the world can deal with their own problems.

I'm concerned that we'll abandon our efforts to lift entire continents out of poverty because we'll view it as too expensive in the short term. While ignoring the enormous opportunity costs and potential of billions of underitilized laborers.

But nothing to keep me up at night.

Our economy is where it was at in the late 90s. Even after all these 'disasterous dips' we're still in the "golden boom years of the 90s". People will keep having children. People will keep falling in love. People will keep creating art. Making widgets and going about their lives doing whatever it is they do. And I don't think we'll see any substantial changes passed down from government from either party. And I mean that in a good way. I think people are really about 90% satisfied with the way our government operates.

Our nation faces no real existential threats. The chances of me being killed by a terrorist are negligible to none. China seems stable enough for now. Russia has everything to lose. There's no nation which could effectively really thraten my way of life except for our own and I trust the checks and balances our our government system to protect my constitutional rights.

I don't see crime as too great of a threat. The last time I need a police officer I called 911 and had 5 cop cars in under a minute.

If the US government can't secure Iraq I can only imagine what would happen trying to occupy the US. It would be impossible. They know it. Even if you disarmed every American it would take less than a month to rearm the population illegally. (Isn't that one of the arguments by the NRA... it's impossible to physically disarm a population?)

I genuinely believe that 99.9% of the people in office are there in order to do what they think is best for the country. Or at least maintain the illusion of doing what's best for the country for their own personal gain. There isn't really any personal gain from destroying democracy. Especially when they could be the guy who rats out the other guy trying to undermine his own power. Too many conflicting egos to let anything big slip through unnoticed.

The only things I am concerned about are lost opportunities to advance faster. I find it unlikely any truely irreversible setbacks will occur during my lifetime.

That being said I would feel a lot safer if the Human Race had an insurance plan in Space, Underwater in Antartica that was self sustaining. Just saying.

I think it sucks we're not getting scarlet until early next year. I had three friends asking advice late last year about which camera to purchase, i told them all to wait til early 09 for scarlet. One subsequently shot his feature on the hvx, the other hasn't bought anything, and the third guy became a priest.

Warning - actual discussion about cameras

Warning - actual discussion about cameras

Based on the way the Madman and the RedTeam have operated so far I expect Scarlet to be a game changer in the lower end of the professional market and even a significant player in the pro-sumer space. That said, an interesting story shot on the HVX still kicks ass vs a piece of tripe shot on 35mm with Panavision kit.

Wait a minute, I kinda strayed onto an actual camera topic in the off topic section - please don't ban me :shiftyph34r:

I have to say that yes, I am freaked out by many of the things going on in the world at the moment. Most of all the fact that I have been looking for work for over a year and have had zero luck so far. After putting in over 300 applications and sending out more demo reels and resumes than I can count I am really starting to get more and more scared about how I am going to take care of my family. But I know I am not the only one going through tough times.

On top of all that there is the ever present threat of the zombie hordes coming for us all. Hopefully Scarlet will be out before that happens and we can document the end of times in beautiful 3k.

An interesting story shot on anything will kick ass compared to a piece of tripe shot on anything; you'll just have more money for the wrap party if you shoot it on an HVX rather than film...

i am...

I love a good conspiracy and have listened to Alex Jones stuff occasionally for years. It's all good stuff to be aware of. You have to love some of his docs... I think most of his global conspiracy stuff is pretty well documented. I think he's wrong on a number of counts, but generally he makes more sense than the nightly news.

When disaster strikes and they start putting people in FEMA camps it's a safe bet I'm not going.

The zombies, I fear, are [un]alive and [un]well.

People, the zombpocalypse is nigh! Ignore the brain-hungry hellspawn at your own peril. Gird your loins and wear titanium helmets.

Though the zombies are terrifying, I also find Miley Cyrus sort of scary. The photo clearly shows Miley right after her reanimation, pale and with black-rimmed eyes, about to feast on the brains of some lovely blonde tartlet. Call it an amuse bouche.

I just came back from a training seminar on how to deal with a zombie invasions and or FEMA death camps. Here's a couple pictures.

Shot with my Red of course. :gun:

Nah, the current ISO 320 sensors are just fine. There will be plenty of flares to illuminate the zombie hordes. Zombies don't like flares. We just have to be sure to buy the daylight balanced flares so we don't sacrifice our blue channels when shooting zombies.
