  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anyone burned Blu-Ray yet?

I have not yet, but I intend to very soon. I'll try to keep you posted.

To check their 1080 transcoded footage footage on a HD TV? What's your experience? How did you compress? What did it look like? Share your thoughts please...

Yes, I did.

No difference with any of the BD you can find at Best Buy or Walmart.

That's exactly what I tought buying. LaCie is the only Mac compatible BRD burner on the market (external that is). So it looks good then?

What was your compression setting prior to that? Out of FCP I mean? I cut in FCP with the proxies, do the Crimson way back and fort with my edit (1080 in both RedCine and Crimson), then compile a 1080 with any efects rendered out of FCP...

Then what? You take that file and burn it on BRD?

I have had success going to Bluray with a Pioneer BDR-202 and Encore CS3 on my Dell 690 and WinXP.

I just ordered Production Premium CS4 for my Mac along with the BDR-202 in an external enclosure. I was assured that this combo will work. I should have it in a few days and will post my comments after a short test project try.

Yep, looks very good...well, within the limitations of a "home made" BD job.

Shot 4K to RedAlert/Redcine, half debayer to FCP,then ProRes HQ and Blu-Ray...Very easy for a 3 minutes project. In a few weeks I will do the test
with a feature film.

Just finished burning a few Blu-Rays from a recent Red project last week. Did the whole project PC workflow. Shot for scope 2.39:1. Edited real time in premiere and then auto-generated the conform timeline to output corrected footage down to HD. Used TMPGEnc to set up encoding for Blu-Ray and then assembled final output of everything from Encore to an LG brand burner.

On Mac Pro with Adobe CS4 you don't need a "bloody" PC.

After you can play on your Blu-Ray Player or Sony Play station.

That's not true. I've purchased a BD burner but can't think of it off the top of my head. I'll update this post when I go to the office tomorrow. Although I haven't burned movies but works great for data so far.

From the beginning, Panasonic Internal Blu-ray drive worked with Toast and the driver software in the OSX even though product was meant for PC.

I'd say there are some incompatibilities with new drives with Encore, they all seem to work with Toast. Also, there was LG Blu-ray drive that wasn't compatible with Encore, but now with Encore updates, it works. Also, I put this LG drive in a external eSATA/USB2 drive case, it works fine with all of the Macs I've tried.
