I have res #249 and my day (hopefully) is approaching and I have a pile of Nikons here that I would like to be using for awhile before I can afford Cine Glass.

Any "tentative" Red-Like "Subject to change" dates that can be tossed about?

Check the "Lens test" section. I havn't looked it through so much, but maby they say something there.

At Red Day we were told that the PL mount redesign has delayed the Nikon mount and that most likely it will not be available until after the new year.

Hi Sheltie Guy, how long ago was this when you were told? The last update I saw was that the Nikon mount would ship around the same time as the 200+ serial numbers, sometime in mid December. Let me know. Thanks!

Red Day

Red Day

My camera number is 100. I went to Red Day at Red HQ on October 19th.
Jim stated that the Nikon mount would be delayed because of the backfocus modifications to the new PL mount. According to Jim, it's going to be a backfocus adjustable mount that will give us all a new kind of backfocus religious experience. Somehow they are also going to be addressing backfocus issues for the Nikon mount but just can't do everything at once. So, if my memory servers me correctly, Jim said the probability is that the Nikon mount will not appear until sometime after the new year. Hopefully someone from Red, Jim?, will give us an update soon.

Ay me! I'm all about the Nikon glass and have built my personal lens set. My camera is currently planned for a December delivery. It would really suck to not be able to see anything with it when I pull it from the box.

:(

Michael--

I'm with you, except that I'm expecting to buy a couple of newer Nikkors--including one that still hasn't been released yet--and mine is due even a bit earlier. We need to hear about the Birger Nikon mount or, at least, the RED Nikon mount sooner, rather than later.

I had hoped I'd be able to avoid these timing issues, but I'm starting to lose hope on that front.

The redesign of our lens mount system is a huge advancement, but until it is done... the re-work of a Nikon mount cannot begin.

I understand that there are two small companies that plan to make a Nikon adaptor as soon as we ship the new mount. I can't say who they are, but maybe they will step up here and announce their intentions? One has said he could supply a Nikon mount within two weeks of seeing our new mount.

Jim

Jim,

Do you have an approx date in mind ?

I must know before i purchase lenses.

thanks

Date in mind for what? We are trying to release the next batch of cameras in a couple of weeks. I'll know pretty soon if we can hit that mark. We won't have Nikon mounts (from RED) until early 2008. I can't say about the independent companies... that's why I asked them to speak up.

Any takers? I'd love to know which companies these are...

I didn't realize the PL mount changes affect the other mounts as well. How does this affect Birger's mount system?

I'm already nervous about Birger's recent silence.

Now that even Jim encouraged the companies to speak up I hope we will get an update from Erik on the Bringer situation. I understood their silence based on the recent changes and because I am sure they are bound by some agreements. But now that the cat is out of the bag it would be time for an update.

As long as we can get swapable lens mounts without
having to have a lens tech re-adjust them then I can
wait.

oh is that what it's going to be like?
