I may have missed another thread on this subject but has anyone heard whether there will be Nikon, Canon or BNCR mounts for the EPIC. Will existing mounts work same as on RED? I'd like to be able to use my Canon 10-22 and a few special BNCR Kowa Primes if possible in addition to Red Pro Primes and Zooms.

Please advise,

Jim Jannard: If you look at the two cameras, it is obvious that the lens mounts are different. I guess lens mounts fall into the "almost everything" category.

Mounts are interchangeable on the DSMC brains via 4 bolts. The mounts on the DSMC brains are not compatible with the RED One and vice versa. Nikon and Canon electronic mounts will be available when Epic-X starts shipping. As for BNCR, I'm not sure if RED has a BNCR mount in the works, but there may be other solutions out there for this.

Thanks Jeff. Did anyone ever tell you you are the Encyclopedia of all things RED? :)

8,261 POSTS! Wow. And many of those are detailed technical explanations or answers to the hard questions.

If you ever hear of a BNCR mount for EPIC in the works, please let me know.

Does anyone know if RED has stated whether pulling focus with the touch screen will work when using these mounts with canon/nikon AF still lenses?

Logically it would seem to be so but I thought it is best not to assume ! :001_smile:

Yes, RED has stated that you'd be able to electronically control nikon/canon lenses with RED's new mounts. Subject to change of course.

Jim said somewhere else that the Canon and Nikon mounts will be ready when EpicX ships. I got the impression the touchscreen focus might come a little later. I could be wrong (hoping).

I'm hoping they have at least a Nikon dumb mount (non electronic) that can control the aperture on DX/G lenses with no aperture ring (much like the current Optitek Nikon mount).

"...At least that is the plan. We are not sure if each will be ready by then but we are working hard at it..." -Ted-

Yeah, but Jim and Jarred are saying they will be available when Epic ships. We shall see, all things subject to change, who knows. They may not be ready right out of the gate with TATTOO... I would assume that part of the TATTOO program will be final testing these mounts anyway. Lots of things can happen or may need to happen still. We're all just speculating.
