any windoze experts?

Hi Gang,

Not very up to date on Windows op systems,

two things, is there a way to turn the auto update off???

Other, is there a way to roll back to a version on this system
about 6 months ago, ya know, before auto update totally
screwed the system up and now some software doesn't run?

You need Windows 10 PRO to disable updates. Home there is no option.

With Windows, only sadists run the Home edition... Too many basic features are disabled for no good reason. Always run Pro or suffer the consequences.

It used to be that auto updates were off by default and you could choose to turn them on. Or set to just download the updates and notify you when they were ready to install and you could deal with it when ready. Now the updates are just on and they removed the options to control this. Have to go into the registry / policy editor and muck about with things. This has been typical of Windows for the past several releases — continuously dumb it down and take away features in an effort to secure and simplify, all while adding new features that often duplicate functionality and obfuscate general operational concepts. The whole OS reeks of over-design by committee practices and lack of consistent direction.

...Have to run it because that’s where all the software is and where the best GPU support is. If we could go 100% Mac and Linux, we would.

I agree, why spend $ 200 on a windows 10 pro version and have all the flexibility with hard and software you can have, when you can have an overheated trashcan with a no upgrade path what so ever.

Windows 10 pro is far from perfect, but it is the best supported operating system we have today (it runs on a trashcan).
