  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

guys,

i have an upcoming TVC on a sailing boat; its about a career woman etc etc; images need to be very soft and beautiful, very cinematographic; therefore i thought to use this lens plus a focal doubler.
any thoughts for this ?

cheers

The Optimo, being a rear anamorphic, won't have oval bokeh or strong flares... personally, I prefer front anamorphic. I also like Ana for the fact that (say) a 35mm vertical FOV gives a 17.5mm horizonatl FOV... much more cinematic.

Via a quick Google I found this - comparison between the Optimo and a Hawk Ana zoom (not my video).

But a lot can be done with diffusion too... depends on the final look you're after. But, I think I'd shoot spherical rather than rear ana.

thx Andy !

Glad to help :)

Decent Front Ana zooms are great - but they're generally large/heavy... maybe use some Ana Primes (?) that'll give a nice look. I guess it depends on the complexities of the shoot... lens changes on a boat aren't much fun :)

The modern rear anas (like the Optimo) will give you the FOV, but are clinical in look - plus you're already at T4 as there's the anamorphic element at the end of the lens.
