  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So I saw that Sony announced a A3000 camera which supposedly would have a electronic viewfinder and lens for $400. Obviously it is not out yet so don't know the quality but at that price I wonder why we haven't seen any slim/sleek EVFs we can attach to the top of a DSMC (kind of like a DSLR form factor)? Do you think we will ever get there? I owned the Zacuto for a while but it was far too bulky for what I am looking for. If I had the budget obviously I would go for the RED bomb but even that I have seen in many other's photos of their rigs that the RED bomb seems bigger than I would expect for a sleek EVF to attach directly centered on the top of a DSMC.

Also do you think that Redrock will ever actually produce the MicroEVF that has been on their website (a page which hasn't even been updated since May 2011? Like Seriously???)

Samir was there any more info on this Sony EVF?

Im leaning towards an EVF due to my failing eye sight but after testing the BOMB EVF LCOS, I cant get past the view judder while shooting.
So used to the LCD but would really like to try something that works well for my eyes.
How do you find the Zacuto compared to what ever you've experienced in regards to EVF?

If you are used to the LCD but want the option of an EVF, try this:

Jason thanks Ive considered that but maybe for static use but for shoulder rigs, I worked with the LCD 5" and I found it cumbersome and never felt at ease.

That's a very good point Eric. We all have our comfort level with a particular EVF solution. That's why we let folks try out our products and see if it works for them, and then they can decide if they want to keep it or not.

Yours is tops as far as outdoor use.

Just havent done enough of those to pull the trigger :)

nex-7 has a fantastic EVF with a great refresh rate, I dont understand why something that small can't sold for rigs.

Hi Eric. The Zacuto was too bulky for me. I also am not looking for a scope. Would like to ditch the lcd on occasion. Was just hoping someone would build a small evf maybe time for a kickstarter.

My Sony RX1 has this brilliant viewfinder that's about as big as a box of matches. Wish third parties were making products like this compatible with cine cameras.

I would love to see a 1920x1080 EVF. The OLED Bomb EVF is only 1280x720 and I am constantly suprised by images looking razor sharp on the EVF but "buzzed" on my 17" 1080 monitor. Usually not too problematic as TVC's are still delivered SD in Australia but call me old fashioned but I would love to see future EVFs with at least 1080 res.
