  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any risks with buying old used ssd mags?

Looking to buy a 64gb that looks like it's been through a lot. Seller is asking for 350 and I was wondering if it's a good deal or if it'd be better to invest 150 more for one that is newer.

Does performance degrade? Do they have a life expectancy? I know drives fail but I was wondering if there's anything to worry about in this case.

I've bought a bunch of used REDMags in various degrees of external "pristine-ness" over the last few years with zero problems.

Red SSD's are SLC and have massive amounts of over-provisioning, initially something like 300%, hence they're designed to last a long time.

Hi Shiblon, this over-provisioning information sounds very interesting! Have just been reading up on it :) So does 300% over-provisioning imply that a 128GB SSD has 512GB of physical memory?
