Hi yall,
I purchase a Wireless follow focus from redrock, i place the order in october and i received it in march (well...)
But i tryed it and it look like it doesnt really keep the acurancy after pulling a few time the focus. All the marks got kinda wrong after a few shot.
That's something i heard once from a 1st assistant but i didnt really pay attention, and the price of the micro remote, c'mon its a bargain.
Is that something you guys noticed? How bad is it on production?

Also, i cant really talk to much about it since i sent it back to redrock waiting for them to put their hand on it . They have it for more than a week and still didnt start looking at it. (well...)
I just hope they are not overwhemed by the NAB event and they be able to sent it back before christmas (8 month to go)

I get this all the time with my buddies movi. The witness marks are always off. There's a huge delay if you do big pulls. Super small pulls don't even work. And now the motor is giving him issues, with making noise, gear no longer staying on, and not auto calibrating any more.

Clovis,

There are a few things you could check on your system.

1) If it's a thicker throw lens, turning up the torque level through the microGain settings (as shown on Page 16 of the Manual) could resolve that.

2) I've seen a lot is people not tightening the motor down enough, so it moves when reversing directions because of the torque, and thus causing marks to be inconsistent in one direction.

3) We've also got an electronic backlash feature built in that allows you to eliminate backlash from any part of the system, be it the lens mount, motor, or rail mount. This is something support can walk you through as well.

Jon,

Performing the electronic backlash adjustment would most likely also fix your friends issue. I've seen this issue come up especially on MoVi's because the motor is usually mounted in a way that is just not as secure as a traditional setup (hot shoe, directly onto the MoVi but the camera can wiggle a bit, etc.)

As for the other issues, a physical backlash adjustment on the motor may be in order, but I would have him contact support to walk him through that.

Does redrock even have an encoder in the motor? The way it drifts makes me feel like the thing is just guessing steps.

Well played Sir . . crisp answers in a timely manner to questions not even addressed directly to you. Impressed

Thanks for the kind word Zeb, that's the fuel to keep me going!

And yes, the motor has an encoder. Any sort of "drifting" or what some may see as "feathering" into stops sounds like a gain issue, again something that is adjustable via the microGain settings on page 16 of the manual.

@ Loren,
Unit works for me, however just one complain so far. Its on repair (turm around) 30 days, hmmm.. For other fellas this may works however, for me its hard to accept.

Mine stopped working....it doesn't calibrate on any lens any more auto or manual...all it wants to do is rotate one direction...as a matter the fact the remote now acts as a speed power wheel...turn one direction and the motor start spinning...keep turning the remote focus wheel and the motor starts picking up speed and keeps going...when I turn the focus wheel the other direction motor starts slowing down....and if I keep turning it eventually stops....very off behavior...we've had this thing for less than a year!

Maz,

Definitely get an email into support@redrockmicro.com, sounds like an encoder issue caused by a mis-plug or irregular motor cable. They'll take care of you though, no worries.

Kwan,

I will check out your case with the support guys.
