  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any portable camera recommendations for preproduction purposes?

Hello everyone,

During preproduction I usually use my iPhone to scout out locations and take pics of actors—I know, horrible. I'm looking to change that. I am now looking for a small portable camera I can carry around with me that can use PL and Canon mounted lenses. I am willing to get the additional adapters to achieve this. I am also looking for something that can approximate (roughly) the 5k full frame of the Epic-X, and/or Dragon 5.5k (M-X area). As seen here http://www.red.com/tools/crop-factor. I'm not particularly concerned with getting the colors or dynamic range right or the resolution at this point, but if there is something close, please do share.

Thanks!

I don't think the iPhone is horrible for this at all; especially the new 6. I use the Artemis app to simulate different lenses on my Scarlet and it works great. No way do I want to carry around another special purpose camera just for this purpose. Just my opinion.

I also use the iPhone and Artimus. If not I take along a DSLR with a APS-C size sensor. Very similar to the lensing on a Scarlet or Epic.
