  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any news on Scarlets releasedate?

Whatever we say, do or think will bare no difference on RED (with regards to wanting more info on the Scarlet). I'm sure they are stoked that so many people want to get involved and purchase the Scarlet. But I think the fact that this camera will open their business to a more fickle audience, means that they have to be careful on what they say and promise and more importantly, the final product that comes to the market. This camera has to 100%, whereas the Epic can still have bugs as the clientele are more willing to work with RED to iron those out.

Having said that, I couldn't sleep last night with the anticipation of reading the post that we have all waited 3 years for. Oh well, another couple of months wont hurt... too much :)

very much looking forward to using the new Cine-x Pro, but first I have to SHOOT something on Red before I can learn it.
that would be awesome, but not necessarily, a whole lot of R3Ds available online, so if you want to learn nothing holds you down,
I don't own red camera, (yet) so I had to learn redcine and figure out my forkflow using online R3D samples; and as long as R3D is just a file format it'll be the same from R1, Epic , or Scarlet
and if you haven't had a chance to get to know what a beauty R3D is and how much of a color and gamma correction abuse it can take, you need to do that asap!

Jim Said "significant announcement and be prepared to stay up late... tell your friends."

After 3 years of waiting, the only thing that would have kept me up was a Scarlet announcement. RCX-pro is very nice. But after so much waiting, this is miles from a significant announcement for me. Anyone else feel the same?
Not having a go at red here, but they should know that every time they say that 'something big' is coming every single scarlet fan gets their hopes up. It's a touch cruel.

Yeah even If we knew that Epic X production just started at the factory, it's not impossible to think that some of us might think the Scarlet were coming like a Tsunami. I was sitting on needles here over here. It will sure be very nice with the new RCX-pro once the Scarlet is out! Anyway I think were close to se the Scarlets rolling out as long theres no more missing parts witch makes it hard to relaxe until got one in my hand.

I'm glad I was in a bar drinking when all this hype kicked off. Alot less stressful to wake up and read it the next day.
Wish I had been doing the same...I'm still feeling bummed out by it all, a little put off by it all really.

On these forums, one can't take what someone else thinks might happen too close to heart. Otherwise it just ends in terrible disappointment. Keep some emotional distance there.

Well this came and went as expected, as cool as the RedCine X pro is, and I've got a few .r3d's to mess around with it's another update that I can't really get excited about at this point in time. It shows some awesome potential and a good layout, still kind of a bummer when everyone gets pulled in and excited for an update and it really is only in correlation to those already with Epics or Red One's. I'm sure I'll be much more excited when I can be putting my own footage through it. I'll comment back on it if and when that happens. It's still just a dream at this point.

I think one of the biggest issues is that once they release Scarlet, we can get it without "stages" and therefore not have to wait. (from what I recall) - so one of the reasons many of were hitting the refresh button over and over, was so we could then click "submit" on the order button. I.e. None of us want to be the last to click "buy".

So I was only disappointed because there no Scarlet news. But yes, I want to start learning on cine-x pro using stuff shot by someone else, and not shot by me on MY Scarlet... ;)

Been thinking it's time to buy a DSLR which will eventually be a B camera to my Scarlet. - Any recommendations on which DSLR? I think the 5DM2 is too old. Maybe the A77?

Which would work better with Red workflow?

Or maybe a really cheap Red One?

Thats what i'm looking at too. I'm already shooting a 7D, works great. If you want frame rates don't get a 5D, If you want better low light footage, and don't want a 1.4x crop don't get the 7D. I went with the 7D. I had a 5D, took it out in the snow once and it burnt out. Got another same thing happened. I've had my 7D out in several blizzards, on the beach, no problems yet, seems slightly better weather proofed.

But i'd stay away from the A77, battery life is awful. Alot of it depends on the glass you want. I like Canon glass so I went 7D over GH2 after my 5D's went under.

I'm also considering the RED One. There are some good package's floating around. I think once Epic X's start shipping out you'll see more. For me it ultimately came down to cost and size. I'm still going to spend $20,000 to get a full running M package probably 25 plus for a MX package. In the end for me it makes more sense to wait for the Scarlet Fixed for now, I may end up getting two, and or waiting for an Epic S. Now if we hit October and we haven't heard anything yet regarding Epic S/Scarlets...I'll heavily consider a RED One package, as i'm sure there will be plenty floating around, and accessories in the Sales thread to the sky. But for what I shoot the size of the camera and how tough getting around can be as it is, it's not an ideal get up!

Comon Scarlet!

Not to burst any bubbles, but I'll be really surprised if we hear anything significant about Scarlet within the month. First, Jim said they still had a "lens issue" to iron out. Which to me means parts as much as anything. Second, they said they weren't putting that much effort into Scarlet until they got Epic-X out. I still think it's going to be weeks before they hit Stage 4 on Epic-X to fully clear that hurdle, but as it is more focus will gradually be on Scarlet. Presuming this means no major parts or firmware delays, I'd still be really surprised if Scarlet gets into production by October and ships by Halloween. If it does, great. But I'm thinking EOY is more practical to hope for. If they don't hit NAB 2012 it's going to be pretty embarrassing, and potentially problematic. But it could take that long. Who knows?

Like the rest of you, I'm shooting on what I have now, and Scarlet will get here when it gets here.

It is already. As competitors also use much of the manufacturing base, I would be surprised if they saw this minor part soon (soon past months ago) to allow them to compete with their competitors bread and butter mass market products. This is not like the Oakley, collusion, I should say, partnerships, to control the market and defraud the public are rife in consumer electronics products. It is easy to get a competitor to be put to the back of the cue until you have a solution to their product. It also affects real "standards" efforts. I don't know why EU and US put up with it, it is not like they benefit from making the products just paying for them.

I'm beginning to think the non release of Scarlet info has more to do with working out the Epic bugs as I'm sure everyone has seen popping up every now and again.. Since similar firmwares are used, I'm guessing it would benefit Scarlet just as much. Perhaps Red does not want to have this forum flooded with every little thing that may or may not occur once the cam ships.. Just a thought.. Not having any relevant Scarlet news at this point is kind of a bummer..

Agreed I'd like to have more news, but I think Epic-x release is scarlets best news. Jim has always said it would come after. I would believe we are talking a few months at most, not 2012.
