  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any news on Scarlets releasedate?

The other thing to remember is that there is a great deal of news which comes out directly related to Epic now, but which is also very pertinent to Scarlet.

I don't understand why people keep insisting that Scarlet is being neglected. Perhaps these people should spend more time reading on the forum. This way they can learn things like how RED has said for a very long time that Scarlet would trail EPIC in development and release due to Scarlet's reliance on the EPIC program's development. That's not neglect. It was by design.

We are not demanding that RED stop what their doing and start working on Scarlet 1 day after Epic-X started.... All we are asking for is in the next few weeks when things calm down, a general update on the progress of Scarlet. (How is the "lens issue" coming along? And do you think Scarlet will drop this year? If thats out of line please let me know.......

But, they've already said that they will do just that, exactly what you're asking for, they're just not providing some specific time-line like "the next few weeks". They're just saying when things calm down a bit they'll have something to say.

Let's see..... Ah yes, here it is:

I know a lot of you are waiting on a Scarlet update, right now our team is 100% focused on getting EPIC-X out the door.

Let's get through that first and then we can start talking about Scarlet :)

Anyway, that little point aside, what I was suggesting was improper was claiming that RED following the path they've repeatedly laid out to us (EPIC first then Scarlet) equates to them neglecting Scarlet now. It doesn't. It equates to them following through on the plan they laid out. I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just saying...

I have been waiting for Scarlet for a good while and although I would love to get my hands on one tomorrow, I know that when it is released it will be a RED product developed and tested to an incredibly high standard. I don't care how long this takes because I know when the RED team decide its ready, it will be one hell of a Camera. I have been keeping myself busy learning all I can about the technology of RED, cinematography, workflow and sharpening my script. I will be ready when Scarlet is ready, and I know we are closer now than we have ever been ;)

I need to sell this piece of crap Sony, so an update would be sweet.

I am glad they are doing Epic first. It's a higher end camera. It should be first because in the right hands it will do more for less; then as they learn and grown the Epic line, Scarlet will naturally evolve for those of us that can just afford that. The Scarlet buyers will then get the advantages of the much more expensive camera. So lets do what we can to support Epic, because frankly that is what we all would want if we could afford it. But I for one, have much planned for my future Scarlet. So I am prepping now. Getting sound, lighting all organized now. - and my DP and I are starting to read the Epic manuals to get up to speed since it will probably be very similar.

But the more we can elevalate this thread the better. But I am sure that if they could release Scarlet tomorrow they would, because the cameras are for different markets.

I fully agree with you, let Red learn from/with the masters of the industry, so that we get the benefits in the Scarlet. Where else do you get that?

The worse thing you can do is ask and get your hopes up. From my experience here, just sit, hang tight and have patience. Picture it like the day you couldn't wait to get laid! Ahhhh I'm still waiting... That is for the scarlet of course.

I agree that we need to be patient as the Epic has alot to do with the Scarlet but at the same time...updates about companies committing to wrong technologies are coming up. Not saying they shouldn't talk about other things, just saying they're not being totally quiet either. You don't want to read between the lines to much.

It's pretty funny though, every update has a couple people ask for an update on the Scarlet. Where they used to address it or atleast give a small update, now they don't even dignify it haha.

Red, having limited resources as all companies do, has to take care of getting Epic X out the door, then they will concentrate on the next release, Scarlet. Jarred said the production line is going like Ferrari right now, but will get to Ford. Meaning, I think, slow at first, then super fast.

I wouldn't get excited about Scarlet until you see something indicating Epic X is at full production speed. I don't know anything about manufacturing, but I imagine this is not simply turning a switch to make the conveyor belt run faster. There are all sorts of little kinks to work out. You don't know what those kinks will be, much less how long it will take to fix them when they pop up. Therefore, they can't give you a definite date on Scarlet, since they cannot know exactly when Epic X production will be at full speed.

It would make sense not to try and fix problems on both production lines at the same time. Plus, ramping up production on Epic X will probably provide experience for getting the Scarlet production streamlined.

Red has been plenty vocal in the past, it's just crunch time now and they have more important things to focus on. They have said they will not reveal their hand to other companies anymore and only tell us when it's ready for release and I think they are sticking to it. The fixed and cinema are coming, when? red will tell us when they are ready.

Now go out and shoot something, or write something, or love someone, or try and find a way to pass the time and not ask the same questions over and over just to get the same replies. Right now is not the best time to ask about scarlet how bout when the buz from the arrivals of the first Epic x's dies down then try again?(not on the date when epic x news is about to start rolling in) or who knows with my timing they'll probably announce something right after I post this. There is a long time before the price hike, and when Jim said pay attention I don't think he meant refresh every hour and post the same questions repeatedly(though I'll admit to doing the former every now and then). but do what you will who am I to tell anyone what to do.

have a good one!

anyone think we will get some Scarlet news tonight? I can't wait to play with Cine-xPro, but then again, I DO need to get some sleep. - Any guesses of further announcements for tonight?

No. There will not be any Scarlet news tonight.

I'm wondering which piece of crap sony you have. Mine makes some pretty nice pictures. Looking forward to the Scarlet but I'm plenty OK in the meantime.

Feel like the party has been going on in the other room, and I am stuck in the lobby. - very much looking forward to using the new Cine-x Pro, but first I have to SHOOT something on Red before I can learn it.

So how about a hint at the least, Red Team, WHEN you might announce us some Scarlet news.

Because its fun to stay up till 2am and all, but...

It would be nice to have Scarlet 3D files to try Redcine-X Pro with...

Jim Said "significant announcement and be prepared to stay up late... tell your friends."

After 3 years of waiting, the only thing that would have kept me up was a Scarlet announcement. RCX-pro is very nice. But after so much waiting, this is miles from a significant announcement for me. Anyone else feel the same?
Not having a go at red here, but they should know that every time they say that 'something big' is coming every single scarlet fan gets their hopes up. It's a touch cruel.

He did say significant not big, I believe, and there is a difference and RCXP is significant. I believe the be ready to stay up late is in reference to the time spent playing around with the program which is what happened with me!

As I said earlier we shouldn't have expected anything scarlet tonight, EPICX isn't even shipping yet wait for the announcement of the first delivery then we can talk.

Have a good one! and remember what's really important in life.... whatever that is to you!... it could be clear and concise statements and if so.....

EX1 & EX3. It's not just Sony, I have a Panasonic GH1 too. They are OK, but I'm bored of them and tired of shitty codecs.

I'm beginning to think the non release of Scarlet info has more to do with working out the Epic bugs as I'm sure everyone has seen popping up every now and again.. Since similar firmwares are used, I'm guessing it would benefit Scarlet just as much. Perhaps Red does not want to have this forum flooded with every little thing that may or may not occur once the cam ships.. Just a thought.. Not having any relevant Scarlet news at this point is kind of a bummer..
