Now that Epic M&X are shipping, are there any news about Scarlets releasedate?
I´m waiting with exitement for that day! :)

I have a feeling we'll see Ted with the 'final' Scarlet fixed version @ IBC

That would be fun! I'm visiting IBC, it's close to my home :-)

The RED Booth is at Hall 9 at stand 9.B49. I will definitely pay a visit over there. Hope they have some sort of Epic-S beta as well!

regards,
Erwin

Well I spoke to red the other day and it sounded like it was about three months away and with stock in hand within 12 months. Kind of read this between the lines.
If we are looking at.another year...sadly I can't be a red customer. Ill still be cheering from the sidelines. Hopefully it will be sooner.

Careful of listening to or making assumptions. Things are constantly changing with Red and I would wait to hear official word from Red on the Status of the Scarlet. Hopefully that comes in the next week or two...

I'm not making any assumptions, or necessarily believe what was posted by Tony, as I will wait for RED, Just saying if we're looking at another year still..it's outside what I can consider.

News? No.

Rampant speculation? Well, of course!

--

  1. One day after production starts is not solidified. RED (Jarred) said that we will learn more once Epic-X gets solidified and they can shift their attention onto other things.Give them a while to ensure that things are running smoothly; that the production process results in a top quality product and that all of the insane logistics with building something like this are handled.
  2. Speculation is fun. But it's also easy to be mislead. For instance, just a couple of weeks ago it would have been very easy for someone to say "Oh yeah…RED says EPIC-X is coming soon, but they are really still just focused on Epic-M. It'll be December or January before they even start shipping, and then they'll just trickle out a few at a time." That would have been a perfectly plausible bit of speculation - except now we know its vastly false.
  3. It's what RED says next that matters, not what they have said. Since everything can change, it's very possible that a great deal has. And since they have been pretty mum, we have no idea what it could be - delivery dates, camera prices and packages, specs. It's all up in the air.
  4. If you need to shoot something in less time than you reasonably expect you could order and receive a camera, and then learn how to use it properly, but you really want to purchase a RED soon, I suggest looking at
    A) renting an EPIC for the project; the budget may be there
    B) rent a RED-MX; these are getting less and less expensive to rent
    C) rent something else
    D) buy something else (assuming the budget or schedule for some reason won't allow for rentals)

I agree 100%, if it came down to that unfortunately I'd be in the same boat.

Yeah I'm right there with you Jeffrey, if its another year, Sorry RED but I'm taking another road. I mean I'll wait till the end of the year, but after that, its not worth it to me. I could be picking up bigger projects right now but I'm holding back on buying a new camera in hopes of some-what future-proofing myself with a Scarlet. But at a certain point its just not worth the wait. There's plenty of other cameras out there that will fit my needs for much less and they are available right now.

Yeah. I'm luckily in a situation right now where all my work is editing so it's not a necessity for me at the moment, but come fall/winter, I'll lose alot of work as that is when my shooting schedule will almost surely ramp up if I don't have a camera in hand. Renting isn't an option and budget is small, as my pay is small, as I work in a field I love doing the exact shooting and editing I want to do. Take a bit of a cut for it but well worth it in the long run!

IBC is in 8 days I'm sure we'll see some working prototype videos of Ted again. I'm really hoping for more. The level of dedication they provide to us is incredible and I'd love to jump on board. Heck if they knew the prices and packages and were just getting the cameras ready for production and had a rough idea if/when they were shipping them I'd pre-order it today :) and as others say shoot whatever camera I can come by. The price jumps are what scare me.

forget about release date.. The issue is with one last "lens part" right?... Once crates of the lens part come in, release should be now. I think we more then deserve a status update on this one last "lens issue".. As it stands, a year or more is easy if it's out of RED's hands..

The update would be grand. There are alot of people sitting on there hands right now to keep there credit cards at bay while surfing B&H and other various sites. I've blocked it on my work computer to :)

Seems like I am in the same boat as many on here. Want to shoot something NOW. but also want to shoot on Scarlet, because that is at my budget/ skill level. But could buy a A77 today if needed. In fact, if the Cannon 5dm2 was not so old, would have gotten that as is. Now thinking about Scarlet, and then if all goes well (meaning get paid back for shooting something) then a Epic X would be nice as an A and keep the Scarlet as a B camera.

Anyone know if there is a thread for ideal Scarlet setup for indie flicks? (and yes, I know there are no Scarlets yet...)

Hope by IBC there will be some announcements.

Another quick thought.

Maybe the more views/posts we can get for this thread, the more likely they will be to respond.

If this is the "newest" post all day, and it keeps showing up over and over at the top of the list, then everyone will see and we will get a faster response.

(caviet: I am very stoked about the Epic X, and very glad Red has that going on. I WISH I could afford it because it's a great value; but my current skills don't warrant that level of a camera (...yet ;) ) but all the Epics going into production is GREAT news for the Scarlet people because that measns they are getting better at making them, perfecting the software etc. So thanks Red Team and all you are doing is getting us all closer to getting the tools we need to tell our stories.

Keep up the good work building the Xs.

Do they ever respond to anything in the Scarlet section? They are always in the Epic section. But it seems like we don't receive much love.

I don't understand Red neglecting the scarlet program. Surely it will be at least as profitable as the Epic program, potentially more so. Why does Epic come first and then scarlet?

I don't understand why people keep insisting that Scarlet is being neglected. Perhaps these people should spend more time reading on the forum. This way they can learn things like how RED has said for a very long time that Scarlet would trail EPIC in development and release due to Scarlet's reliance on the EPIC program's development. That's not neglect. It was by design.

Totally agree with Leo on this one. I am glad they are doing Epic first. It's a higher end camera. It should be first because in the right hands it will do more for less; then as they learn and grown the Epic line, Scarlet will naturally evolve for those of us that can just afford that. The Scarlet buyers will then get the advantages of the much more expensive camera. So lets do what we can to support Epic, because frankly that is what we all would want if we could afford it. But I for one, have much planned for my future Scarlet. So I am prepping now. Getting sound, lighting all organized now. - and my DP and I are starting to read the Epic manuals to get up to speed since it will probably be very similar.

But the more we can elevalate this thread the better. But I am sure that if they could release Scarlet tomorrow they would, because the cameras are for different markets.
