I would like to buy a new Redmag 1.8"SSD 512GB or 1TB! Are the prizes going down like the other compagnies do? I'm waiting for my Up-grade to Dragon and i'm shooting a lot of Opera's and Bach concerts with 4 or 5 Epic's or SCarlets and Red One. These are long take's, sometimes over the hour long!!
Changind SSD sitting in between the listening people is not aloud, we are already a distorsion at the concerts.:frown5:

There are no 1TB SSD announced, but I would be confident that at some point they could show up as a nice surprise.

As for the 512GB's this are as you probably know, temporarily unavailable, but you can find them for sale in the Market Place "Red stuff" section of this Forum.

If you are in a bind with time, I might be able to sale you two of mines, which are currently in Modena Italy right now.

Ehum... What about the fans of the Epic when shooting for so long?

That's not a problem, i have the fans on 35% top/bottom. We have now 1 takes of a hour. I'ts silent enough, breathing of all the people around us is louder :-)
It's in a Church and the temp is not higher than 70F or 19 ddegrees.
At the Opera we are much further away from the podium and it is much hotter there, we have the fans on 45%. A Opera can be 3,5 hours with single takes of a hour.

You could also get the rear SSD module and put 2 x 256's in the camera at once...
That's a good thing, but i also have a +1 and want to keep the camera as small as possible and rather spent the money at SSD.

For whatever reason, it appears that Brook Willard has become the unofficial seller of 512 GB mags.

All things being equal, Dragon necessitates a lower bitrate than MX so 512 GB redmags should be adequate.
Thank you Alex,
Did could only means that there are new coming. Faster for the Dragons.
Do you think they are new and with the latest firmware. Older ones had to be send back for up-grade!

No idea. You could email him. I'm sure he'd know.

Brook Willard has a ton of REDMAGs, including 512GB ones, for sale.

Interesting. That's one way to unload these without offering warranty, if there is indeed issues with power consumption.

RED only gives 90 days of warranty, on media...

Thank you very much

Hi Bob and Nick, what kind of problems are there with the power consumption of the Red SSD 512GB ?

Ketch, how much are you selling the 512GBs? God, if you really had a 512TB that would be worth millions!

I've been thinking about getting a 512GB for a while now. Why the back order? Better SSDs on the way for Dragon?

Not sure on the back order and it doesn't seem like there's anything new coming right away. The 512GB cards should be more than plenty good enough for Dragon. I don't think we need new media, we need for RED to find a way to increase production quantities and get prices down. The 512's do have a bit of a troubled history. Had to send the early ones back for firmware upgrades and fixes. They take more power to properly operate and get the most reliable performance. There's lots of them out there, but on the other hand it's hard to get ahold of them and they're expensive for single pieces of media. IMO, the 256GB's are probably better and more practical overall. The reason I use the 512's is for the ability to shoot at lower compression rates. I can't comment on that front in relation to Dragon. I know it has different compression ratios to choose from and the compression is a bit higher under most circumstances, but the noise floor is a lot lower. Can't wait to test for myself.
