  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any good reason to update Epic-X from 5.2.29?

Hi folks,

I noticed I haven't updated my Epic-X's fw in ages: it's running 5.2.29 from October 2014.

Considering this cam has the Mysterium-X sensor, and it's worked pretty well recently, is there a good reason to update to a newer firmware?

By this I mean, do the newer firmwares contain any essential features missing from 5.2.29?

How about showstopper bugs or stability issues in any of the newer firmwares?

Thank you for your help!

Petri -- My uneducated 2 farthings follow:

Be careful, as there are 'steps' in firmware versions such that 'going back' to a known working environment may not
be possible. So consider which 'next' firmware version to load carefully, and consider more small steps versus a few big jumps.

If shooting Canon EF lenses with CPUs (e.g., AF lenses), I found 5.3.33 to be the last version that really worked well with
both the 'regular' EF Mount AND the EF Motion Mount -- at least for me. The current latest, 6.0.37, may require booting a few times with
certain EF lenses to be able to change their f/stop. Or turning off AF or IS at boot up (but maybe being able to turn them on
after the camera & lens have successfully 'talked.') Some have reported similar problems with Nikkor CPU lenses. No
PL or Leica-M problems that I've heard of.

You probably DO want to get more current than 5.2.29 -- but go slowly.

One thing I appreciate is being able to see HDRx A and X track. I have some problems with loosing connection with canon lenses when I switch them, but that may just be me. The new firmware has a lot of new features, things are placed differently as well which can take a while getting used too.
