I'm trying to setup my previz software (FrameForge 3D) for use with my camera and lenses, and I'm having a hard time getting the settings right. I'm lost on whether or not my lens entries should account for crop factors or not. We're shooting 4k on a Red Scarlet X. Currently my FrameForge 3D settings are:

Aspect Ratio: 1.90:1

Film (or Equiv.) Size: 35mm
Physical width of film or CCD aperture: 27.7mm

My lenses are a mix of Canon L-Series lenses and Rokinon Cine Primes (Canon EF Mount).

When I'm entering my lens choices into FrameForge, should I list the ACTUAL lenses, or modify them for a crop factor. For instance, should I enter my 16mm prime as an option (since I entered the actual 27.7mm sensor width and 1.90:1 aspect ratio), or enter it as 26mm (16mm with a crop factor of 1.62x to account for 4k Full).

The last thing I want to do is spend hours creating storyboards and shotlists, only to get on set and find out that every lens I called for is wrong.

Thanks!

You should list the lenses as they are stated. Since you are listing the physical width of the CCD, that accounts for the crop factor and sets you up properly.
I have a love hate relationship with frameforge. It has lots of potential but is still to this day extremely buggy and frustrating. Just wanted to give you proper warning before diving into this program.

Thanks for the response, this is a joint question that Clayton and I have been discussing. Question though, wouldn't that mean the lenses would be correct if you're shooting 5k (using the full 27.65mm sensor)? Since we're shooting 4k, would the sensor size still be correct? It seems like we would need to either list the lenses as adjusted for crop factor, or enter the sensor size as 22.12mm to account for the corrected sensor size that the Scarlet X sees when shooting 4k? Or am I way off base?

And yeah, FrameForge can be buggy, but it's also helped me a ton in the past when you learn how to navigate the bugs. I've considered switching to a different platform, but I haven't found anything that has FF's capabilities (as far as sensor size, lens selections, etc).

Thanks again!

Ok, so if I choose a sensor size of 22.12mm and an aspect ratio of 1.9, I should be able to use my actual lens sizes and get a fairly accurate portrayal. That's what I thought, but wanted someone else's feedback. Thanks so much for your time!

Ok, so I got clarification from FrameForge (in case anyone else comes across the question later. They verified, if you're shooting a RED Scarlet X at 4k, you'll create a new frameset that is 22.12mm wide with an aspect ratio of 1.9:1, then all the lenses will be accurate. Thanks again for all of the help.
