  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any footage of the DSMC IR PASS OLPF (color) ?

Someone asked about "ND" filtration for IR-shooting. Yes, normal NDs look more like clear glass.

So, I made a test with the Tiffen Indie set (IRND). I was a while ago a little sad to have spend money at all on them, greenish tint and not really cutting IR. Which brought up the idea, to do a test as they don't work as a real IR cut filter: mix it with a IR pass filter.

(BTW, using the Motion Mount shows, with the IR pass, how well the IR cut of the MM works.)

Both R3Ds in one file 12.4MB:

I hold on the right side a Tiffen 87 (IR pass) and on the left a IRND 2.1 in the other image both overlap.

The IR cut of the IRNDs are so low, that they work as reducer. Even here they tint the image. I haven't tested all seven but the 0.3 is weaker for example.

(As I test each session one lens, and I had 3% left on the media, I thought to make that little test. The lens today was the Canon 24-70mm,L2.8 v1. Not the best lens, but it had IR markings on it, so I was curious.)

OK, without saying it is a good shot, I hope it will allow for some exploration.

P.S.: A quick preview, settings chosen to show the difference. ;o)

Shot this as soon as I could swap the OLPF over, very impressed with the results.

A screen from a project in progress. I just love the IR PASS OLPF. Weird flares, focus shifts and it feels like it has its own life (in a good way). Will post the final piece here when finished.

Robert,

Which version of IR OLPF is this? Did you use any additional filters in front of the lens? Do you mind posting a link to the finished video?
