  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any Feedback on the Armorman 2

James - RE: Steadimate 30 - could you share photos with your setup and just generally share more on your experience with it? I really want to try one out.
Thanks in Advance!

it works very nicelly, and you can do moves that arent possible with the AM.

the arm is a proven small arm perfect for Y axis stabilization and very smooth in all its range

the only thing I didnt like much is the fact that it sticks out a bit on the side as the arm isnt designed to be positioned for center operation and rather side operation.

Other than that its smooth as butter and you always have the other side free of size so there are work arounds for tide spaces.

Adjusting it is very fast and no brainer dialing easy accesible knobs by finger control and you are done.

and correct balance of the arm in all axis

Thats my experience trying it and I have tried it with a gimbal.

regards

I owned the Armor Man 1 and then eventually sold it and bought the Armor Man 2. I've been very happy with it thus far, the ability to park the arms is game changing, and having the marks on the springs made the upgrade was well worth it to me. I use it predominantly with a Dragon and a MoVi M15. I find the Armor Man actually does a better job of removing the stepping I sometimes get when using my M15 but you have to remember to always roll your feet to get best results. I've had the best luck so far with keeping the tension on both sets of springs slightly tighter than the half way mark. This will obviously depend on how heavy your rig is. I use Duclos Leica R's so my setup is not crazy heavy. As far as ergonomics goes, I find that you really have to keep everything as tight as possible to get a good fit and you definitely should supplement the lumbar support which I find to be extremely lacking. I have lower back issues so I ended up getting this special cushion that I attach to the lumbar area and its been a lifesaver: http://gokhalemethod.com/stretchsit. Even with my sensitive back I've used my Armor Man 2 for hours on end doing crazy long overhead shots. The one thing I want to figure out with my Armor Man is how to do tracking shots without walking backwards (one of the great strengths of the Steadicam system). I haven't tried it yet, but I think if I place the M15 in inverted mode and then have the camera pointed over my shoulder I might be able to get some kind of similar effect. The armor man does do a great job of the side tracking shot.

It´s good. I only have something between armour man 1 and 2 with some of the finesse built into amor man 2 missing but still it´s a no brainer for the price and the performance, just buy it.

Another cool thing if you like to film like Michael bay but feel somewhat stressed doing it with a big zoom lens on Armor man 2 lets you hold the camera just like him and you can do it for hours upon end with no stress on your arms... you can even poke your nose with one hand while doing it. So it´s not only good for gimbals but also for hand held it makes the camera float in front of you in a nice way.

A clip with armour man and ronin with a setup that I would not be able to hold for more than 20 seconds or so: https://vimeo.com/163396717

Its a 3 minutes something take and I don't even think of that I´m filming Im actually on my way back to the car.

Hi mate - when you say a combination of the armor man 1 and 2, what does that mean? Are the arms interchangeable so you could put the ring clamp arms on the V1? Many thanks!
