I'm considering using the A-mount on my Epic to use Nikon glass. Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks! :)

I used the A mount on my R1 with BNCR lenses. Now I have them on my Epic and Scarlet for use with Leica R's and BNCR mounted Zeiss. I highly recommend it.

Do you know how the weight compares to the prolock for example?

Have you used it with nikon lenses? Does it feel solid?

Thanks :)

Thanks guys. Anyone else have experience or opinions on the A-mount? I'm especiialy interested if anyone has used both A-mount and prolock solutions for nikon glass.

THANKS!

With the A mount system, do you have to physically replace the nikon mount on each nikon lens you plan to use with the system with the A system nikon mount? Doesn't that turn out to be rather expensive?

Not when you can go from Nikon Lens to PL Lens in 10 seconds.

Much faster than getting the hex set out and changing mounts on the camera body.

That's exactly my concern. The system consists of the 1)A-mount, which is a universal mount, 2) Epic/Scarlet Mount Base, and 2)the Nikon adapter.
Now, someone here told me that you have to have an adapter for every lens; that's not only inconvenient, but at $180 a pop, expensive as well. Can anyone clarify this?

Whoa, wait a second... I was under the impression that the "Nikon F adapter" was a nikon mount that was secured into the A-mount, and then you can mount and unmount your nikon glass into it like you would any other nikon camera.

Are you saying that it's indeed an adapter, and I would need one for every lens I intend to use? I was hoping to buy the epic mount base, the A-mount, and then one of each lens adapter and be set for life. If I have to buy adapters for every lens then this would indeed be a more expensive proposition than the prolock.

I think it is a more expensive propostion, although it doesn't look like it at first. And I'm with you about the hassle of having to use an adapter instead of simply being able to put the lens right on like you do with regular mounts

The A mount doesnt replace the Nikon mount. It has a lens adaptor that mounts on the nikon lens mount that improves the mount and is easy to use more in the style of a PL mount. You can fit one for each lens for convenience or change each lens but that is far less convenient. i think the ability to change between lenses easily and quickly when using A mount is missed here. on our cameras we can go between Nikon, Leica PL, Y/C lenses and could add BNCR, M42 also if we wanted to. The prolok mount is a great mount also but if you wanted to use only Nikon or you would have to change the camera mount to PL or Canon if you wanted to use other mount systems. Comparitivly A mount is not expensive. If offers huge flexability and access to very high quality lenses that you might not other wise have the opertunity to use. This is written from a very happy customer perspective, Im not associated with Allstar.

You can go that route if you're rich, sure. I have 10+ Nikon lenses and bought a single Nikon F adapter for the RED ONE A-mount. Moving the adapter from one lens to another takes seconds. This is a non-issue, if you ask me.

Changing the Red lens mount is a forward thinking and "game changer" capability Red designed into this camera system. But this (lens mount change) procedure is not something you want to be doing in the field all day bouncing from one lens to another for each shot set-up.

The A-mount is perfect for the customer who as a mix of lenses they want to use. The All-star lens mount system supports PL, BNCR, Nikon, Leica, Zeiss/Contax, and Nikon G is still in prototype (I think). If you have 2 or more of these lenses then changing from one brand/type to another is as easy (and as solid) as changing a PL mount lens. The system works beautifully, is very well made and even low priced (3 for 3!). Last I checked there was no Canon lens option. But.... you do have to buy an adapter for each "stills" lens or you'd need to be doing a different small allen wrench procedure every time you changed to a lens you didn't have an adapter for.

If you have a bag full of Nikon's then get the pro-lock which works great for Nikon mounts.
