  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Any chance of 3k 60fps or 2k/1.5k 120fps?

Thread title says it all. Totally fine with high amounts of compression to pull it off.

Hell, what about 2.5k 60fps?

Considering my FS100 can do 1080p60, it'd be nice to see the scarlet outclass my $5k camera. :P

Your Scarlet-X will do 1080p60, too - and at a much higher data rate with a RAW file and a much higher quality image.

2k, when debayered, is less than 1080p in terms of resolution.

So is your FS100

RESOLUTION
The Sony FS100 managed to resolve approximately 780 lines resolution with a little bit of visible aliasing; but overall a nice clean image.

No. I think Jim, Jarred and co have only answered this a few hundred times.

I find this really interesting that people assume that only RED cameras don't achieve 100% measured resolution for the resolution they shoot.

Most of the loss in resolution actually comes from the OLPF (optical low pass filter - it sits in front of the sensor and is required to reduce aliasing and moiré) and from the quality of the optical system (mainly your lenses). This is why all cameras, even ones that use three sensors instead of a single Bayer sensor have this problem. Some cameras supersample to get more resolution though.

I would be happy with 1.5K at 96 fps. This goes in line of what they have already posted 2K @ 60 and 1K @ 120 and the 3K @ 48. It does not canniblize the Epic or Red One, but it definately hurts the competition. I see no negative of adding 1.5K @ 96 fps setting unless it is somethimg to do with the hardware.

It is a nice in between, and it is still shooting above 720p. I would use this option often for web work and highschool/college sports. (Maybe at higher levels than myself it would be a selling point for a good 720p pro-sports camera.)

PS I agree with the PAL people as well. Maybe a 3K PAL mode? Loose a little resolution to get those extra 2 frames, it can be a head ache saver if you are converting to 50i. Again, I see no disadvantage, and just positive. It opens up a larger market, unless it is a hardware setting.

Yeah. 1.5k at 96fps would be amazing, and exactly what I'm looking for.

In other words, I'd like the Scarlet to do more fps at higher resolutions than my FS100, and 1.5k at 96fps would be just that!

My guess is Scarlet will get 2K 120fps and even 5K 24fps, but only after the Dragon upgrade.

And don't forget guys it's not only about what hardware can do and how far it can be pushed, it's also about the fact that you have to separate two products (EPIC and SCARLET) in terms of features. If Scarlet becomes too similar to EPIC no one will buy an EPIC at 3 times the price.
