Has anyone tried the ARRI Alura's on an Epic yet? Just wondering if they cover and what people's thoughts of them are?

Pro's and Con's vs the Optimo DP lenses? (Pro: T2.6 and greater range vs Cons: weight and not as wide?)

Also curious if the Optimo 24-290mm - the big lad - covers the full 5K?

Do we think Optimo plan on releasing another lens in the DP series to extend to 200mm+?

Sorry for the questions, but the Optimo is a rather large investment, although it seems to be the 'go to' lens right now.

Thanks,

Gary

We are using the Optimo 1.4x with the 24-290mm on Epic. Till Angenieux release their (approx) 1.2x adapter this is the best solution for helping the lens cover 5k throughout the range. There is no noticeable loss of image quality. The increase sensor size of the Epic offset by the magnification of the extender makes the Optimo roughly equal to a 29- 350mm T4.

For anyone who was curious, I stumbled across the post in the Epic forums by dino g that states that there is 'slight vignetting' on the 18mm end of the Alura 18-80mm.

Probably worth testing yourself if thinking of buying/renting the lens. (Always good advice anyway).

We used the Alura 18-80mm on Finchers "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" on our Stab C Gyro with Epic for the aerials.
I might be to "gobbsmacked" by the Epic camera to notice any vignetting.

Looks like a stunning setup Peter!

So you didn't notice any vignetting in your shots Peter? Interesting...

Looks like I am back to my original idea of getting the Alura's and a Nikon mount for lightweight work.

Thanks!

Let's hear more about the Aluras! Come on people :)

They are big - not 24-290 big, but still huge and heavy. That's really their only downfall.

Great mechanics, great look, and can't really say much about bad about them.

Obviously the wide end is a little crazy - but that's expected with most zooms.

From what I've seen in projection well controlled distortion and chroma but a noticeable field curvature on the wide end- about 1 ft at 7 feet and that's not in the corners but about 70% of the field- seems like an aspheric issue
