I know Wooden Camera and RED both have great solutions, but those are a bit too pricey for me, and they both require dovetails (another purchase for me :/ )

I have Phil's rodClaw on order right now, but I was curious if there are any 15mm studio rod support baseplate solutions that are under $400 and also don't require me having to buy a dovetail as well?

smallrig as above.

I had their standard one on my scarlet w since i had it, but today the new one arrived - im moving over to a dovetail setup and the build quality is great when considering the price! if you arent in need of a dovetail one and are based in the uk, id be happy to sell you my first smallrig one for half price...

I can recommend you to check out smallrig aswell.

For sure! Their stuff looks good, and I've had their coldshoes for a bit now. The issue is they don't have 15mm plates that are studio width apart.

I'm specifically after 15mm studio because we've had issues with our follow focus slipping away from the lens regardless of lens, rod clamping side, etc. with the 15mm lightweight setups :/

If you're looking for DSMC1 stuff, I've got some for sale right now.

$385 for all of it.

No, DSMC2, and also... shouldn't this go in the For Sale section???

I'm asking specifically about 15mm studio, not lightweight, anyways...

I'm not familiar with a low cost studio set up. However, small rig does sell 15x 100mm studio rod brackets. With a little measuring and ingenuity, you could cobble something together. What follow focus are you having issues with? I use 15mm LWS 95% of the time, even with anamorphics and long lenses. I have a couple 15mm studio baseplates but Since I got rid of my big zooms, I hardly ever use they anymore. Perhaps there is another war to solve your issue.

Sorry for missing this, Nick. I'm using the Wooden Camera 15mm LW setup, and regardless of the lens (my geared Minoltas, DSOs, or rented Xenons), the Bartech + Tilta Nucleus has always ended up slipping/falling away from the lens.

Everything on the rods clamped down feels tight, so my thought was that if I have a 15mm studio setup, the wireless FF will be falling into the lens rather than being perpendicular to it as it is now with a 15mm LW setup.

It's funny, too - I have the Phil Holland rodClaw to give me a rod further out, and my DPs + their 1st ACs always insist on switching the FF to op side on the right, so the claw goes unused :/

I suspect you may have either off size rods, or a bad 19mm-15mm bushing. I have used Bartechs with m-1s and hedens on just about every lens out there with 15mm lws. If you have cheap rods, they could be undersize by a thousandth or 2, and if your bushing is off by another .001" in the wrong direction it can add up. I'd try a new set of rods, a new bushing, and maybe a rod mounted on the top or right side bolted to a cheese plate. Or use the Hill 2 in one arri rossette to 15mm rod. one of my favorites -

At any rate, there is no reason the set up you have shouldn't work fine if you have decent components.

All great advice - thank you Nick! I'll look into all of these!
