  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Hi all,

On my new Epic X (awaiting shipment) I am planning to use AB batteries, the Hytron 140s. My question was, has there been any problems from past users with AB Hytrons in terms of their size, compatibility with Epic?

Also, how compatible they are with the Epic in terms of the voltage they deliver and current?

I am new to owning a RED, so this is the first time I am trying to figure out a battery solution. Just want to make sure I use the right batteries with proper voltages, current and not void my warranty by frying up the camera.

they will work just fine. epic is around only a 65w draw, hytrons can power up to alexa's which are a 100w draw. you might wanna consider global media pro's. muuuuch cheaper, and very high quality. i own several 96w's and they working like champs. had to tap in them for emergency use on a epic and they powered it just fine like any other 96w. lasted a little longer than a dionics imho.
 
Great. Glad to hear that the Hytron 140s have performed just fine on Epics. I already ordered 2 of the Hytron 140s. Will look for more brand options as I build the kit and have more need. At the moment with a 65w draw, I should be able to run the Epic for about 4 hours, which is a good time..
 
One question I still have is how does using a 3rd party battery system affect the warranty? Does it void the warranty and if yes in what cases / situations? I also have the RED Armor for Epic.

4 hours off one Hytron 140 is a steep estimate. I use Dionic 160s on my scarlet and only get around 3 hours out of them. The AB website says the Hytron 140 lasts about 2 3/4 hours on an epic. I love anton bauer batteries and there costomer support so I think you made a great choice going with them.
 
Hey Pete, yes I meant 2 Hytrons. I feel pretty safe using those 2 giants to power me for long time..
