  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anton Bauer VCLX..good for RED?

They're great. We sell and rent them for use with REDs all the time.

I believe the camera with small LCD draws about 80w. The large Cine VCLX is rated at 560wh, so that would be seven hours. The smaller Cine VCLX/2 is half the size at 280wh, so it would run about 3.5 hours. In practice we have found these ratings to be conservative and the units running longer, but perhaps that is because these blocks are new and fresh.

Thanks for the info.

These are the most awesome batteries I have ever worked with!

On this week's shoot I was running an Arri 535, onboard monitor and Preston FIZ and used the same battery all day (12 hours).

At wrap, the battery display was showing 3 hours and 15 minutes of runtime left!

I would say these would give you at least half a day of Red usage quite easily if not more.

I have one of these and it is great, easily the best option on the market. There will soon be a review of it up on www.finnerknowsbest.com

What is the pricing of these units approx? What are the two boxes shown in the photos on the different sites? It feeds proper % battery information to the RED camera or does it display "DC Power" when plugged to this block battery?

It does not carry RED battery info so it will say DC power, but there is a battery life display on the block itself and the Origo will monitor it's state as well.

The item the battery is pictured with is it's charger. Abel sells a bundle for RED users for each battery that includes the battery block (Cine VCLX or Cine VCLX/2), appropriate charger, battery to charger cable, charger to AC outlet cable, 6' battery to RED One camera cable and a case for them all. I don't know pricing but you can contact us for a quote.

Mitch,
Any plans in the works for any longer cables...say 25' (Battery to Red)

Best Regards,
Woody

If you need a longer cable run an XLR4 to XLR4 extension can be added. I would use a heavy gauge cable to reduce line loss.
