I just wanted to share this little gem with everyone. Its the new QR-Epic plate from Anton Bauer. It is a plate to accept all Anton Bauer Gold Mount Batteries with a Epic power cable pigtailed out the back. I put it onto a small aluminum plate and mounted it onto a Red Universal mount. This way I can put the battery where I need it for specific set ups and fine balancing the camera. It is a perfect solution for all my Epic shooting needs. The QR-Epic plate also has a D-Tap out so I can run my Preston Microforce or Lectrosonic Reciever or secondary monitor. I have been getting around 1 and a half hours of run time on a Anton Bauer Dionic 90HC battery. I have 8 of them so I have never come close to running out of power even on those 18-20 hour days that are supposed to be half days...
I have put in a few pics with the battery mounted in different configurations. I highly recommend the QR-Epic for your Epic.

Love the setup, those Dionic batteries look quite light and portable. Question... wasn't it said somewhere that batteries other than Red Bricks could void your warranty?

I have never heard that. I have been running these batteries from day 1 on my Epic-M. At first I was running them with my Anton Bauer Battery Belt patiently awaiting the QR-Epic plates arrival. The batteries are really light and rock solid.

Hey James this is pulled out of the Epic Manual regarding external power sources. The Anton Bauer setup is a perfectly acceptable solution for the Epic.

EXTERNAL DC POWER
EPIC accepts input voltages between 11.5V - 17V D.C and can draw a maximum current of 12 Amps.
An appropriate 150W supply with DC output rated at 15V 10A is available from RED Digital Cinema.
RED BRICK™ 140Wh batteries may be used with the camera via an adaptor cable (p/n 140-0135).
4-pin XLR DC power sources may also be used with the camera via an adaptor cable (p/n 140-0160).

Best

Thanks for posting pics Mike - was eyeing this on the AB site. Hoping to rig it so it can be extended with a shoulder pad over the back of my shoulder for HH work. D-tap to power accessories a must. Cool.
How long is the power cable?

Stu the power cable is 27 inches long. It will be fine for the set up you are talking about. For most of my applications where it is mounted right next to the camera on rods I just wrap the cable around the bottom of the battery so it is out of the way. I also have their TM-4 fast charger which simultaneously charges 4 batteries in 2 and a half hours. Keeps me going all day and night.

What is also nice is that RED has opened up the battery meter function on the EPIC to read in voltage as well, so now any proper 3rd party battery can be used with the camera. RED Volts are great for a tiny form factor, but bricks like the Anton bauers pack a great punch.

Thanks Mike! I see it on the front of the camera, what's on the back holding the Anton Bauer QR Epic? is it a universal mount of old?

Bob I am using the old Univeral Red Mount to put the QR-Epic plate onto. Tom I had an aluminum plate made into which I drilled and tapped 1/4 20 holes to mount to the universal mount. Drilled out the threads on the universal mount and bolted the two together. I also drilled and tapped the small 3mm holes into the aluminum plate to mount the QR-Epic to. Was kind of a pain but it is super solid and should last for a very long time.
BTW Ryan at Wooden Camera has off the shelf battery backing plates for 60 dollars. Right now they are pre-drilled with 1/4 20 holes and smaller holes in the V-Lock pattern. Yesterday the guys from Anton Bauer sent him the template for their hole pattern. He said he was going to make some plates with the AB pattern pre-drilled and tapped if he got some good interest. Hit him up on email. It is very well worth it in my opinion to have the battery mounted on 19mm rods so you can place it where you need it to fine balance the setup you are running. Very helpful for handheld, steadicam, lighter tripods with smaller dovetails, and jib work.

Thank you Mike for the details and thank you Conrad for the details and the Wooden Camera tip.

Conrad I wish I saw that a while ago. Drilling and tapping is a bit of a pain but also kind of fun. I like to tinker on stuff so its cool to make a solution.
Looks like all the pieces are now there.

Using the Anton Matrix plate and Wooden Camera easy plates, this is what i came up with.
Extremely compact solution when bricks are needed.

My only gripe is that the anton cable is twice as long as it needs to be.

Like it! but what about a vmount solution? Should I just buy a anton b to vmount adaptor or does someone make a vmout option like this? What about buying the anton rail mount system and attaching a vmount red batt plate? Is that possible? Can't wait for that epic back pack plate I guess...

This will be my goto battery solution. The quad battery module looks great but it only powers the camera. Still need power for the microforce, bartech, cinetape. Not to mention the PIX 240 for those producers that can't deal with r3d files.
