Can anyone help me with wiring an anton bauer plate over to LEMO. I have an XL2 plate with prewiring but to a different type of connector. Can I just cut off the existing connector and hook the lemo wire into those wires instead of having to solder? And if I have to Solder, how do I do it or where should I send it to have it done.

I dont want to pay for another plate if can be avoided :clown2:

You have a Gold Mount for the CANON XL2 that you are trying to convert over? is that what you are asking?

YES, you will have to solder the connections. If you don't have experience soldering, I would not recommend starting with LEMOs, especially with this one as it is power.

If you only require having the 6 Pin LEMO 2B connector soldered to your AB plate, and you have all the parts I'm sure there may be some one that can do that for you, if not, I'll do it for you, you only pay shipping round trip.

If you still plan on using the plate with your XL2, then you could have an adapter cable made, so you could utilize the plate on both cameras.

My concern is that is you are trying to use the QR-XLH Gold Mount, which is the one used for the CANON XL1/2 and H1 cameras, then the output at the faux battery is only 7.2v, as we have a dc-dc converter internal to the unit.

So, you would need to bypass this circuit before you start soldering.

The QR-RED Gold Mount is only $279.00 and you don't need to do any additional work....

Hi Paul, Thanks for all the replies. How do hard is it to bypass the circuit?

Paul, Maybe even a better question would be, could I send Anton Bauer the plate and have them convert it over for me? Would this be a less expencive option?

Eeeeh..! :cold: :cold: You must be kidding? You have bought a cam for about 20-30K USD, and you trying to save about 200 bucks!!!?

Hi Paul,
Is this shipping yet...I have had one on order from you guys for several months and have not heard anything yet.

Its not difficult und not much work. I took the Vmount off and replaced it with an existing AB plate (some AB plate have the screw on front others on back - you need the ones with front screw holes). The srew holes match perfectly. I had to cut only a larger slot for the cable breakout, then i solder the cables direct to the pins. The info contact and electronic i bypass. 200$ saved + reliable battery connection now.

Any chance you could post a picture?

we are closed over easter, next week i could post a pic. power data/info i did not connect. not needed, the ab batteries have own display, as easy to read as the red one display. dont want to do experiments. I dont have the original red batteries to compare the info/data signal, so i better leave it unconnected for now.

That would be great Andreas, I really appreciate it.

More info about QR-Red mount?

More info about QR-Red mount?

Hi all,

Is there a way to get more info on A/B QR-Red mount?

Does it hotswap? Does it accept more/ different A/B battery types for hotswap? So far only Dionics 90 or Hytron 50 are recommended for this kind of use. Why? What happens if we try to hotswap different A/B batteries?

Is there a way to integrate a lemo 6 pin input for power blocks into (that or) an alternative mount? It would be great to be able to carry a buffer battery on board and be allowed to unplug the block for setting up next camera position while keeping weight issues reasonable.

Have successfully connected #818 to our 12V power blocks and would love to offer solutions where you don't have to reboot for every set-up or wander around the set in tandem - one carrying the body and someone following with cable plugged in and carrying battery block - that seems possible but unsafe at least - not to say "uncool"...

Special Hello to Mitch and the gang at Abel Cine. Are you looking into some of these features?

Thanks for all available info so far

No Camera operation break, hot swap and operate either One or two battery at the same time.

PM me to buy it and I will offer best price to existing RED one owners and it takes 3 days DHL delivery international from HKG.

We have two models :

1) AB mount to AB mount
2) V-Mount to AB Mount

The QR-RED will be a standard Gold Mount plate. This means that it will have a D-Tap port on the side and will accept a standard AB HotSwap adaptor, which is a separate device.

The main reason the HotSwap will only accept the smaller Dionic 90 or Hytron 50 batteries is weight. If you put two larger batteries on the adapter it would pull away from the Gold mount plate and have a poor connection, not to mention the physical danger should it suddenly pop off. The design of the Hot Swap adaptor makes it physically only fit these smaller batteries. Note that two Dionic 90 batts & the adaptor still weight a tiny bit less than a Hytron 140.

It is possible that in the future there may be a second version of the QR-RED with a RED Lemo port on the side for power pass-thru, but in the meantime you can instead use the D-Tap. Yes, you can get a cable from your large block or AC power supply and have it terminate in a D-Tap and this will feed through the plate and into your camera. Be sure to use a cable with a diode in it to prevent backflow of power. Anton Bauer makes a 4-pin to D-Tap reverse cable for this purpose. Using this cable you willl conceivably never have to power down your RED One.

Hope that answers all questions.

I'll pitch in and answer a few questions also:

- QR-Hot Swap-GM - As Mitch mentioned, this Hot Swap adapter will only allow Dionic 90 or HyTRON 50 batteries. This is because of the physical size and weight of the ProPac and HyTRON 100/120/140 batteries. If you had two larger batteries on the Hot Swap, it would weigh between 10-11 lbs.

- The QR-RED does not pass battery information thru to the camera at this moment. We are working with RED to have this feature in a future build.

- The QR-RED mounts should start shipping by March 31st.

- For PMascetta, yes, you can bypass the whole circuit if you needed to. You can just unsolder the whole 7.2v circuit and remove it. Then, just solder directly to the (+) and (-) terminals of the Gold Mount.

Thanks.
Paul
