If I want to run my RED One with the four Anton Bauer Dionic 90 batteries that I already own, what is the best solution?

I currently have a Zacuto/Anton Bauer battery plate that accepts the standard D-Tap plug.

Is there a D-Tap to Red One power cable?

Peter, give me a buzz off-list and I can go over all the options for you. There are a variety of ways to go that I can lay out for you. PM, email or call me at the office on Monday.

Will do.

Thanks Mitch.

One thing to keep in mind. You will get very short run times with the Dionic 90s when you use the drive. I found generally a half hour or a little more. The camera already pulls 70W and I think with the drive its a liitle too much amperage. You don't get the run time you would expect. They work better if you are shooting to cards. At NAB I saw Anton Bauer was coming out with new 90w batteries that were more amenable to the higher draw, I would suggest you check those out.

I have run on AB or other goldmount batteries since I put my package together and its great. I had to have my first mount custom machined, as there were no off the shelf options at the time, but Mitch can point you to several these days. Action Products also has a nice swappack-type option you might want to look at: http://actionproducts.ch/index.php?cPath=48_23_53.
The Photo shows a dreaded V-mount, but I bought one with dual Gold Mounts and it works great.

Be careful!!!

Unfortunately, RED will NOT cover the warranty if using Anton Bauer batteries.

It's crazy, I know...

Are you sure of this?

This is all that I can find regarding batteries in the FAQ sections of RED's own website:

Does RED recommend the use of third party accessories?
RED values the support of third party manufacturers and welcomes the addition of many products hitting the market to join the RED Revolution. Although we don't authorize or put our "seal of approval" on all accessories, we certainly encourage the creative process that generates new items that we haven't even thought of. The ultimate decision of purchase is left to the consumer.

What size batteries can I use on the RED ONE and what is the running time?
The RED Brick battery rated at 140Wh will provide 2 hours of camera on-time, whether in standby or record mode. The V-lock system that we provide is an industry standard allowing the use of other manufacturer's cells, although not allowing the camera-intelligent features of remaining time/battery status that the RED Brick offers.

I also use the QR hotswap http://www.antonbauer.com/Products/QRHOTSWAP.
I run my camera from 2 batteries and can change batteries without rebooting.

This looks like an excellent option for me.

Don't worry Mitch, I will certainly pick it up from you or Matt Livingston. Did I mention that Abel Cine Tech is the greatest place for all of your film and video needs. They offer one-stop shopping and a friendly ...

Sergei ... What have you found to be the best way to mount this QR Hotswap plate? I would assume off the rear rods and a Zacuto Red Plate. However, I do like the way a RED cradle allows the batteries to be above and towards the rear of the camera without extending the body or interfering with the rear controls. Then again ... the RED cradle does not offer the benefit of hot swapping the batteries.

This is a link to the best treatise on batteries I have ever read. (66 years )

This is a very interesting breakdown, Danno. It certainly contains a lot of good information.

However, my main concern at this point is the official word on 3rd party batteries and their effect (if any) on the RED warranty.

Peter, since you are starting out with a new RED package, perhaps you want to look into an option such as this:

Like I said, give us a call or come on in. We have lots of options that you might never otherwise think of.

I'm coming in tomorrow morning.

I saw that on the ACT website. At first glance, this (link below) looks hip too. The Anton Bauer version, of course.

Lots of choices. See you tomorrow.
