Kevin mentioned a per-print distro cost of $2500. Jim, Jarred, Ted...get this guy on the phone and start talking RedRay!

Geez, Bob & Harvey are going to make a KILLING on My Idiot Brother, I'm shocked to see a Paul Rudd comedy sell for $6.75mm with $15mm P&A money. What a steal for under $22mm. This really sucks for the indie market...

No one i have heard wants a damn thing to do with Kevin Smiths movie, at least not at his whisper number, his auction for rights tonight was a complete failure, it'll be interesting to see how he plays it off in the media.

Wow, so Kevin Smith will be self distributing Red State? Things are a changin'.

Unless it is part of his plan to auction it off...

Get this, his auction was tonight and more buyers cared about the football game, they were at the same time.

Higher Ground - Vera Farmiga's directorial debut also shot on Red MX cameras. DP - Michael McDonough. It's in competition and got a wonderful reception at it's premiere yesterday.

The auction was clearly KS trolling as less than an hour later their whole distro plan was up on their site WITH the initial March dates, yes that very same month of March listed in the teaser released on Christmas eve. KS had obviously no intention of selling the flick.

Well, if that's really the case he should NOT have put sales agents to work who spent months of their time on it and inviting buyers who now will NEVER deal with him again! The general consensus from those that I talked to (possible buyers) was that Kevin realized he didn't have the winner that he thought he did and started thinking about this as his only option left.

Note to other indies, don't ever piss off sales agents and buyers like he did.

The dude burned bridges, no doubt, but he claims to be more or less done as a filmmaker after HIT SOMEBODY which he plans to self-distro as well. I don't care what any anonymous source says, for at least a month now KS and John Gordon have been working on this release strategy and simply decided to troll the whole industry with the faux auction. The idea that Smith did what he did on Sunday night had anything to do with how negotiations were going at Sundance is simply untrue.

Ted,

Are you still here? would love to meet up tonight if your around!

Thanks Ted
