I had a chance to spend some quality time with some ancient footage. It turned out to be a pleasant revisit to Red One material I had graded back in 2009. Originally it was shot for & used in a music video for Finnish band "Sunrise Avenue". This was one of the first encounters with Red for me, and also for the DOP, Juge Heikkilä. I remember having some problems with the footage, especially with the lack colors (hue&saturation) in shadow areas.
All went well back then: the client was more than happy & we were also pretty pleased with it. Apparently the fans liked the the promo too: the official video has 2,8 million views in youtube.
This spring Misko Iho, the director of the video decided to give a new life to some of the old stuff in a form of promotional piece for himself. He asked whether I was intrested in grading the new film. I was. He wanted a bold look, totally different from the first one.
The old sure felt new with the new redcolor. There was so much more info to play with. I had a blast. Graded with Lustre. Here's the video: http://www.miskoiho.com/commercials/smile/
