Hi

i have scarlet x and i have already paid for scarlet dragon upgrade. But i am wondering if there will be any other differences other than 6k and FPS between scarlet dragon and epic dragon?

If i only need;

1-16+ dynamic range
2-new color science of dragon
3-5k -60 fps or 4k 75fps

Will scarlet dragon enough and no need for epic dragon?

Thanks:drool:

Scarlet should be enough for regular shooting with slight slowmo. Where epic dragon is a no limits type of camera.
1. If you get the same 16+ stops on scarlet is a good question since it can only do 5k. But I wouldn't be surprised if you get 16 stops.
2. Yes you will get new color science
3. According to the specs as of now 5k 60fps and 4k 75fps is at WS mode. But why shoot anything not in WS?

everything is subject to change though. But it's always for the better.

Hi Jon
thank you for the answer.
in scarlet dragon tech specs says : 16+ dynamic range
but i hope it will be as same as epic dragon

It should be close if not the same. It's the exact same sensor. The only thing that would hold it back is that it's not using the whole sensor. But it won't make a drastic difference to the DR.

The situation will be the same as with EPIC and Scarlet, you get the same sensor and performance, just lower fps, limited resolution and compression.
So yes, a Scarlet will fit your needs greatly.

As Jon said, 60fps are only for 5kWS. You get 48fps for 5kFS. But then there will be custom resolutions too. We will see what a Scarlet can do at 4.5k

Scarlet got bumped up, it's not just a simple sensor-upgrade. The gap between a Dragon Scarlet and Dragon EPIC is going to be smaller and i would say that a Dragon Scarlet is probably the better camera for a lot of use cases, when you compare it to EPIC with MX. Well, i said this multiple times before, but to put this in perspective. P.J. could have shot Hobbit on Dragon Scarlet, with higher DR, less noise and so on. ;)

I'm still in the process of making a choice between upgrading to Dragon Scarlet or Dragon EPIC, but honestly it's more a debate between "need" and "want". ;)

.

Dynamic-range-per-photoreceptor and amount-of-photoreceptors are two entirely separate questions.

Same photoreceptor technology = same dynamic range.

Aside from that, I wouldn't count your chickens until they're announced firmly. Hell, there are still people pining for the 3K fixed-lens Scarlet as it was originally announced.
