  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Another great use of a drone

We got a super bright light to work on one of our UAVs to do a fake police search light gag. The shadows moving around are what really sell it.

Excellent idea

Echo the others' questions.

Think the UAV needs to be higher in a lot of the shots. The absence of downdraft is probably the missing element. Need some big fans or small fans closeby just out of shot to stir things up a bit.

Yea we are using a homemade LED setup that we rigged the batts to. We tried it with both a gimbal and a spring fixed mount. We just used it on a TV show and they did have a fan going. We are going to try get a helicopter POV shot next.

Really Nice Work...

Have to be honest here, doesn't work for me. The motion is wrong to start with. Maybe I've just seen too many real-world chopper mounted lights... If you want to sell the effect, you're going to need more fluid motion and the appearance of a bigger light without the wobbling about. You can probably get away with this for a quick shot in a pinch. IMO, you'd get a more realistic effect from a larger light mounted on a crane.

The one advantage of your setup is that you can shine the light down from directly overhead and still move it pretty easily, but you need to get rid of the wobbles and the light is small and appears small.

Not trying to pee in your cheerios, just saying it how I see it it.
