Today, August 31st, 2007, marks the fourth anniversary of RED DAY 1, the day that the very first RED ONEs were delivered. More than just a milestone, a revolution was begun that day. It was the announcement to the world of a new shift in thinking, a new business model to be admired, establishing the company philosophy that 'good enough' simply wasn't good enough. This was a company founded by a visionary, a Disney and a Jobs in his own right, laying forth the edict that to move forward you have to break down the walls of tradition. Disruptive and confident, RED was the little engine that could, and in the last four years has democratized film making, made people millionaires, changed lives, created new careers and has forever changed the landscape of motion picture production. In its wake, competitive companies have raised their game and have been forced to re-think their models. There is not a current movie making product on the market that isn't a direct result of the impact RED has made.

This was all due to the tireless work of the RED Team, from the hard working customer representatives to the designers to the engineers to the administrators and accountants to the warehouse workers, from the bottom of the chain to the top. And at the top was the visionary himself, a man who made it all happen. Jim has been more than a leader. There is not a single employee at RED that doesn't give 110% and it's because of their commitment to Jim. He is a man you want to please, because he is a man you respect. His leadership comes from an innate ability to swoop you up into the passion he has for the product. RED is a family with passion shared for the revolutionary changes it has brought and there is not a single soul that doesn't do it for Jim. To know him is to know someone very special. I used to think that everyone put their pants on the same way. I'm here to tell you that there are people with special gifts. We are not all created equal.

When you read RECON, you are listening to the man himself. His integrity and honesty in his feelings are beyond reproach. What you see is what you get. Many of his posts are emotional. It is real; he is laying himself out for you. I know the man and I've never read a single word that isn't from the heart. It's the thing I love most about RED; it is a company with a soul. And the soul is Jim's.

As he guides the ship into untraveled waters, it is with the indispensable help of his First Mate. It is not an overstatement to say that RED could not be RED without Jarred. In my 40+ years in the photo industry I have never met anyone with the knowledge, skills, experience and creativity that Jarred possesses. He is a genius and what makes him so critical to RED is his telepathic understanding of how Jim thinks. They are almost one and the dynamic is a beautiful thing to watch. There is not a company on earth that has this advantage. It's a one-two punch in leadership that gives RED an unfair edge on anyone who would dare compete.

I was sinfully proud to be a part of all this over the last four years, to have a window on one of the most exciting American enterprises to come along in a long time. I have nothing but admiration and love for all of my fellow employees and team members. I have met some amazing people in my time at RED and will cherish the relationships formed with our customers, people that I no longer think of of as customers, but as dear friends. Francis Kenny comes to mind as someone I will always feel a very deep and affectionate respect for. Because I'm kinda' of an old guy ;) and am going to focus on my health for awhile, I'm going to leave it to the young ones to carry on, but I will monitor reduser religiously, as always, and will be here in spirit for the duration. To all of you, RED owners and fans, the future is bright; the things coming are beyond your imagination. You are on the ride of your lives and in the very good hands of the most generous, most honest and most virtuous man I know.

Have a blast! And here's to the best four years ever!

Jon
