the most difficult shootings are with kids and ... yes , animals...

today a tv commercial shoot for german company "fressnapf" (in english "feeding-bowl"). it´a discount for animal / pet food and accessoires...

the cat was quite nervous and it was hard to get the right focus on that guy!
the post production supervisor was amazed by the quality of red, every hair can be keyed with the background. we had a cat and a dog, the dog´s key is fantastic too in all details of hair.
look at the cat-shot - i scaled in to show how much detail we have there. and the hairs are perfect to key. there´s a little bit too much sharpening on the scaled in image, but this was just a test in photoshop, the original framing is direct from camera and looks fantastic.
another great day of shooting with #2072 "travis"! :) we never had such a good key with 35mm or another camera.
commercial will be ready next week, i will send a link or just watch german television

wow. very beautifull cat , i love them
You need to shoot Iranian Sherazi Cats , they are known as very cool cats
nice shooting and very good luck

Wuff!

Wag the Dog.

Love above all your first image (makof)! Looks like fun :weight_lift: nice shots, will test my red on animals as well within the next 3 weeks (marmots & co). where in SW.de are you located?

cheers, Fritz

well, the cat had fun. we? after one hour we admitted the cat some sleep, hahaha. we went on with the dog shoot, "Tiger" was a one take dog, a professional

after the siesta sleep (1h) of the cat, we got the shot we needed of "Fuchur" ... i hope to have the red drive soon, because the most important thing when shooting animals is : let the camera run. they always do the RIGHT movement, ... when you change the mag :)

please red, ship my drive!!!!!

patience is all you need with animals ... but then, the commercials look always amazing when they are edited. lots of fun always indeed.

we are located in the black forest, close to france / strasbourg.

Red South West-

Very very nice. I have a couple of questions for you.

I am curious to see the settings you used. 4K, at 320 ISO, 18-50 lens, from the looks of your lighting you were using 5600K kinos? Did you leave the camera at 5000K?

Did you play around with any other shutter then 48th of a second? Higher shutters? Just curious.

Those pics you posted here, what color adjustments did you do? Did you use RedAlert or RedCine?

Red South West,

I have been doing a bunch of research on this blue channel issue. Tell me- when you were shooting the cat, do you know what IRE value you were hitting? I have been told skin tones should be shot around 50 IRE. I have been doing that for a while, but I feel that even with everything exposed correctly, my blue channel is still a bit dark. I have this noise issue and 5600k thing figured out now thanks to everyone's help-

However, I am curious to know, did you brighten your image up at all? Or is that straight raw footage un-color corrected?

light was some kinoflos and a 575 Sachtler Daylight from side at the dog´s shots.

there´s no dramatic correction on this images, i used the redlog-option in redcine, some play on the curves to get the right image, picked the WB in the redcine and that was all and fine.

we exposed with a light meter and did some short tests with two different exposures, but both were good to key. the white areas of the cat had lots of details.

shutter was different, 1/100 upwards (it´s 25f/s area here) because the cat had very fast movements. but the key was excellent in every frame.

i passed on the images as a tiff-sequence to the supervisor of postproduction, so i hope to have the whole clip next week on a platform.

Can't wait to see it!!! Thanks for that info. Seems like we are on the same page as far as keying.

Thanks again

you can see some older clips we did from this year under

http://www.fressnapf.de/unternehmen/tv-und-radiospots/

the spot "whiskas und pedigree" with the bird-horn is quite funny, this was a spot for the time of european soccer championship.
also the both "WSV 2008" spots has some nice animal performance in the packshots we shoot
i love "my" flying dog (the 2nd WSV 2008 - end part) on the cushions - when i got the storyboard i had some headache how to realize this - there is more CGI you may suppose

enjoy.

here is a still from the commercial with the cat in the finished background.
the hairs of the cat keyed very fine.

thanks bassam

the translation of the german claim is:

"everyone who loves animals (pets) , gives the best" :)
