Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody out there has had hands on time with the new angenieux EZ lenses. On paper, they look very tempting, but I haven't had the occasion to test them just yet. I was wondering how they stack up next to the Optimo DP/Rouge lenses optically. I like the speed of the EZs and the versatility with the lens mount / full frame options, but if the image quality isn't there, I'm more likely to opt for used DP/Rouges. Thanks in advance for any input you might have.

The Angenieux rep told me its the exact same optical elements, just in different housing to reduce the flange. IMO, DSMC Dragons and Angenieux Optimo DP/Rouge lenses are the best buys currently available.

I have an EZ 30-90 and it's very beautiful. Amazing control of chromatic aberration.

Eagerly awaiting my EZ 15-40.

Hey Dan,
Any chance you can share some stuff you shot on your red with the ez-1. Thanks in advance!

Matt Allard shot some footage with the S35mm versions alongside the proper Optimos, and (not surprisingly, given the price) they didn't really hold up that well IMO - there's something quite different about the rendering. The bokeh in particular certainly isn't as pleasant.

That said, I remember someone telling me that they've been designed as full-frame lenses, with essentially a speedbooster rear element for the S35mm versions - so possibly they'll look rather nicer in their Vistavision configuration.

The price and speed of the S35mm versions is certainly enticing though.
