Cabrio is 19-90mm and runs for $38,000

DP Rouge 16-42 & 30-80 run for $42,000 new

Thoughts?

I say its unclear until the cabrio lands, but i have my money down on one just because if it delivers whats promised it wont leave my camera. Guys at Abel told me they took 50 presale orders at NAB alone. Either lens might take a while to get new

Both solutions are going to be very popular. Based on manufacturer forecasts and our pre-order lists, an order placed on the Cabrio today should ship within the next 4-6 months. I believe it's a little longer for the Angenieuxs.

The fujion is 6lbs, and a 19-90 T2.9, and has built in lens motors. I mean.... what more can you ask for. For every day nuts and bolts shooting, interviews, Documentary, low budget films, its a swiss army knife.

Even if it doesnt look amazing, it will still be immensely popular simply for convenience. If i had 38k lying around i'd buy one in a heart beat.

I'd reiterate there is a huge difference between 16 and 19...
also 2 lens are such a different proposition to one lens ( you can run the A and B cam on the 2 dps... And with the fuji it could sit on a crane with its own Lcs built right in)
The DPs are also a know quantity for service and resale...
Basically I think (irispective of how great the fujinon is) only you can know what is right...

first units of the fujinon should be shipping quite soon right...when are you receiving the first ones mitch?

I'm told Fuji is on schedule for around the end of July for the first units. I know for a fact that they're giving themselves a bit of buffer time in case some minor adjustments need to be made or if a few initial units don't pass QC. They'll be rolling in steadily after that.

If this comparison is based on a purchase decision - investigate the backorder situation. The Angenieux backorder reality is absolutely ridiculous - last report I heard was "anywhere from 12 to 24 months."

Not sure where Fujinon is in this landscape, but a DP friend of mine who is considering a purchase was told there was a significant backorder on Alura lenses as well. If you get ready to pull the trigger on a lens purchase, you may be sitting around for a year or more before your precious is available.

That being said, the 19-90 has my serious attention. The whole servo module goes way beyond catering to just the ENG shooters - No more motors and cables when running a FIZ! LDS and iTechnology Metadata.

And take away all the branding, and just look at the images, on the charts, on the scope and in real world. Fujinon makes kick-ass lenses. Remember the E-Series 2/3" lenses? The 18-85 Premier PL is widely regarded to be the best zoom lens out there currently.

Maybe take that extra $6000 and convert it into hundred dollar bills you can wave under the gatekeepers noses to secure a better position in the "waiting list"

I had the same issues about waiting time on Angenieux and went with ARRI Alura instead , 30/80 should be here by october (ordered in april) and 15.5/45 should arrive in Q1 of 2013 (ordered in june) . So about 7/8 months wait on both lenses... Lots of interest it seems, in those lightweight Alura....

Cheers.

Reviving this thread, as I have the same dilemma infront of me, and much is now know about the Cabrio. Thoughts?

The "dilemma" of which you speak is not at all the same as the OP nor of most of this thread. The original dilemma concerned the extraordinary wait time before lenses were available. However, nowadays these lenses are all available from stock, and there are numerous copies available used right now in the marketplace. The Fujinon Cabrio (both V1 and V2) have proven themselves to be amazing lightweight contenders, and their generous image circle makes them quite useable on an EPIC DRAGON unless you really push it (focus at infinity and stop down to f8 at 19mm). Obviously, if you have two camera bodies you need to lens, and one's going to be wider and one's going to be less wide, the two Angie's are a great choice. If you want one lens that will do a wide range very well, and do it across the full DRAGON sensor, the Cabrios are probably the ones to beat.
