  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Angenieux at Cinegear

Good news on the Angenieux front: the new 45-120 will hopefully be released in a HD version by this September at Cinegear East. No, I didn't ask about cost.

This post sparked my curiosity so I emailed Angenieux directly and this is the response: "At the moment there is nothing planned or in the works. All our efforts are focused on making the 45-120 which will start shipping next year. Certainly not ruling out a DP version in the future, but definitely not for another 2 years or so."

We have got our Duclos 11-16 shipped out to us during the Epic American tour and sadly had not yet had the opportunity to use int, but look forward in using it in the 16th Chapel next week, however I was not aware of this issue, let's hope our unit does not have this issue or we'll have to send it back from Italy... :(

You're all set, Ketch. As soon as we realized the flaw we changed the designs and implemented the changes in production. You purchased your lens after we made the revisions.

UGGGGH. That sucks. I also think it's a bit short-sighted on their part. I mean, a lens that's $40,000-50,000 and priced that way because it's designed to work on both film and digital - seriously, how big is the demand for that? Yes, they will sell some to rental houses and a few to affluent owner/operators ... but that's about it.

With the explosion in Epic sales and 3D production that's going to take place once Red's parts and production are finally ready, they could EASILY sell 10 times more of a DP version - even if it were $30,000. (Though I think $25,000 would be the ultimate sweet spot for that lens.)

Oh well ... they make a nice product and have built a good brand, but this does not make good business sense to me :(

Just to be clear here. RED didn't do anything wrong at all. They followed the Arri spec perfectly. The clearance problem with our 11-16mm was simply the pin on the PL mount of the Epic was EXACTLY 3mm, just as Arri calls out in the spec. Most Arri cameras use a pin that is slightly smaller. Something along the lines of 2.99mm, not sure why... But we made the slot on the PL mount of our 11-16mm exactly 3mm as well. The fit was just barely too tight. Our mounts are all made of stainless steel and the Epic mount is titanium which means neither material had the capacity to forgive any error. Our fix for it is to simply machine a very, very small mount of material off of the slots of the PL mount on the 11-16mm. The filing that Tim Duran saw was just a little touch up to remove machining burrs. This is in fact an absolutely free service. We made the mistake. We will fix it. Plain and simple.

Companies like Duclos will be the ones that succeed. I've never bought anything from them, but you can bet I will. This sort of customer service is the way it should be, but sadly, it rarely is. Duclos is red... I mean rad. Same thing :)

Nothing but good things to say about Duclos. Panicked a little when I couldnt get my 11-16 to mount on Teds Epic, but took it to vegas for NAB and was fixed overnight.

Glad I invested in an 11-16 when I did, theyre hot little commodities now!

Cant wait for the 70-200!
