  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Angenieux 25-250 T3.9 ?

In what sense is it gross?

Mot in Mitch´s sense for sure...
I would personally try to avoid buying one of those old Angénieux... rather stretch a little bit your funds and go for a Cooke Varotal 25-250 for example; they are offered quite often, not really expensive, and are better lenses for sure.

such a gross lens

Such a bizarre comment. A lens is a tool and this is not only the first 10X Zoom on the block and very sharp at a decent stop, it is also the only one at 5.7 pounds You can hand hold without a support. CA and distortions can easily be fixed in post if the main shot is crisp. There is nothing of that range and weight out there or planned. Its the only true run and gun and hand held 50-180 Close up lens You can find while the industry rather sells You a multitude of broken range demi zooms.

TBH it's a fair comment on what was a bad zoom even by 1970's standards. Cooke lenses from that era are in another league.

That's precisely the reason why Kubrick used it on Barry Lyndon :-) And a couple of his other movies.

Of course, he handpicked his lenses but a bad lens is a bad lens no matter which one you pick...

Stephen, no harm done, but this is probably the 20th time you say you used that lens as a prop... Seriously! I'm not exaggerating.
Believe me - WE GET IT.

The comment was made 3 years ago, your just rereading old posts. why complain to me now?
