As a long time iOS user I know there’s iMovie and LumaFusion, but what are people using to cut footage on their Android devices? Would love to have a reasonably capable app for posting footage while travelling.

I use KineMaster. As a Samsung device owner, I get a special discount for the in-app purchases.

That's an interesting question.

I'd assume one of the major post software companies will want to jump into this but which one?

I'd guess that the Resolve team would probably the most interested in creating a stripped down editing (and maybe 1 light) capable H1 app that funnels the user into Resolve proper.

I'm sure at some point adobe would port PP to it, but at the glacial speed they move these days, I don't see them being first to the party.

Avid wouldn't be interested at all I think. And even if they were, I don't think they would have the development resources to commit to it without really changing things up over there.

FCP-X seems like both the least obvious choice, because of the OS, but at the same time one of the most obvious choices because it's the program that's best suited to make an adaptation like this. The magnetic timeline thing and metadata tagging are perfect for a phone with a 4d screen. It's a shame that this'll get locked out by OS. Seems like a match made in heaven.

I think editing on a laptop is rather a penalty, than an option, let alone a phone.
But if I have to, Quick (by GoPro) is my goto app.
Just ignore all that preset and filter crap :-)

Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll have to give that one a try. Wish they’d port Splice over too but such is life.

As for how much of a compromise it is, I agree; I have a lot more control in FCP/Resolve/etc., but there’s also something serene and fun about assembling footage on your phone after a day of travelling. I’ve been doing it while I’m in the US this week and I’m having a blast. :)
