Lens testing with a new Scarlet and our Iscorama's (1.5x) with older Nikon E Series primes.
Shot mostly in 3k 48fps, with a couple of 5K 12fps shots.

Very cool. The very distinctly anamoprhic lens flares are great. I'm dugging those highway sun shots A LOT. Does that Iscorama cut down on the resolution too much? Looks pretty good from here, but thought I'd ask.

Great job.

Thanks Nick! I think all anamorphics do cut down a slight bit of sharpness at least. Some much more than others. Most people who want that look are willing to sacrifice a little clarity in exchange for style.

I've worked with many over the years and the Iscorama series are by far the sharpest. I'm more worried about the prime lens being soft.

These Iscorama's are single focus, where you set your prime lens to infinity and you only need to rack focus the Iscorama attachment. The sharpness and ease of use has really driven the price of these up lately ($2.5k to $4k). I was lucky and got them early on, but I think the current prices are well worth it.

Vid-Atlantic has 1.7x and 2.0x Iscorama's in stock now. You recommend either? These "attachements" go ON TOP of your normal prime right?

Thanks Vadim, I love going low and dutch!

Nick, The 1.75x and 2x lenses are very similar...Technically the 1.75x lenses can be considered 2x and the 2x lenses are more like 1.9x. So in the end the look is the close to the same. But please know that those lenses are NOT Iscorama series lenses. They're Isco glass, the same as Iscorama and nice and sharp, but you have to rack focus both lenses, which can be a pain. But once again, well worth the trade off for the end look.

I'm going to shoot some Red footage with these Isco's soon, as well as the CineMorph filters which create the 2x Anamorphic bokeh and give off streaks/flares, but the filter wont squeeze the image at all. You need to add letterbox or crop in post when using the CineMorph filters.

Yes, you mount the Isco on top of your SLR lens, but its recommended to use smaller front prime lenses like the old Nikons or m42 mount Russian and Japanese lenses. 35mm was the widest you could without vignetting in 5K with the Iscorama. Since these Iscos are a little longer, you should be fine with a 50mm Nikon E or similar prime lens in 4k or 3k. And there are only a few of those Isco's remaining in stock. They're cleaned up, tested and used by us (Vid-Atlantic Media Productions) before they're put up for sale...so you wont get burned by buying any of those junked/soft lenses that keep reappearing on ebay and craigslist.

Keep in mind that using an 85mm prime lens with a 2x anamorphic lens will give you an apprx 43mm field of view (left to right), so dont be afraid to use tighter focal lengths.

Email me if you have any questions as I'm not on here too much. eddie(at)vid-atlantic.com

Eddie I have a bunch of M42 and also Contax glass. What thread do I need on a 50mm? A 49mm or a 55mm? My Contax 50's are 55mm thread, will that work?

Sounds like you have compatible lenses Nick. The Isco lenses that are for sale come with the VAMP Clamp mounting clamp kit. The kit has a 60mm base and includes a 58mm-60mm ring and a 52mm-60mm ring. So for your 55mm front lens, you'll need either a 55-60mm, or 55-58mm step up ring.
