First of all, I would like to say hello to all of my fellow REDuser as I post my first post on the forum. I received my Scarlet-X yesterday JUST in time before saying goodbye to 2012.
I spent tonight evening shooting a scene of a camera test that I had planned, 4k HD, 6:1, blah blah blah. More interesting fact is I shot the footage with a 1.5x Anamorphic lens.
I throw my R3D in PPro6, cut the footage in preset R3D 4K HD sequence. then graded with Source Setting ( which by the way my fear of adapting the RED workflow and working in NLE without a RedRocket is a joke, this is basically the easiest workflow adaptation since I first learned iMove when I first started editing video 5 years ago... Thank you RED, you guys are right, it is SO easy!).
After editing, I queued the render to Encoder, using my QuickTime H.264 32mbps setting to render a 1920x1080 mov, then desqueeze the footage via Compressor to 2.75:1.
The short test scene works, anamorphic desqueeze properly, however, I am wondering if any RED anamorphic user here have a more streamline work flow to directly edit desqueezed in PPro6 yet maintaining the R3D file metadata access without transcoding, so we can edit in 2.75:1 instead of a squeezed frame while we can still access the Source Setting to grade down the road? I have yet to be able to make a custom frame dimension of 2880x1080 with the RED Cinema preset provided.
Beside, I also wonder what's the best codec to render edited sequenze with R3D files for 4k HD and 1080p deliverable: h.264 mov, ProRes422 mov, MPEG4, etc? (That isn't .red)
Thank you so much guys! Still have plenty to learn with this camera and workflow!
