  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

anamorphic on east coast

Now that this thread is back on topic :) I would love if someone could suggest an innexpensive monitoring solution to display the desqueezed image. Is their another 7' third part monitor out there that can do a desqueeze? I'm looking for more of a handheld solution for operating rather than being tethered.

As I understand vast majority of Bollywood films are currently shot on
HAWK lenses.
Thx,
Babu

Guys, the new Nebtek HD LCD's have an anamorphic desqueeze. I'm not sure how it would do with cropping a bit off the sides for 2x anamorphics, but it at least will desqueeze a little bit. I was toying with the idea of getting one specifically for 2.35:1 framing and having a Carrion LCD for general focus and menu adjustments. They're backed up on orders but that's the only on-camera LCD I know of that has it.

Are you saying the Carrion can't desqueeze? I was actually thinking of getting it just for that reason.

From everything I've been able to find on it, I haven't found any evidence to suggest that the Carrion LCD desqueezes the image for 2.35:1. If it can, then somebody needed to say something sooner, otherwise, the Nebtek is the only one that I've seen that can do it.

to try and steer this thread back on topic, a friend of mine told me he thought he knew someone in Maryland with a set of Hawk Vs, which would be increadibly convenient because the shoot is in DC.

Anyone know something?

Abel will soon have a set of anamorphics available for rental. I'm on a business trip at the moment, so I may return to the office Moday to find them waiting for me.

Well, it is a little far fetched, but you could always use the Panasonic Anamorphic adapter with the RED 18-50 zoom and film in 4K 16:9. Works great on my HV20 and you do get the ol' anamorphic flares and such. Maybe not to the degree a normal anamorphic lens would give, I wouldn't know I've never worked with a 35mm anamorphic lens before, just the adapter, so I can't really do a side-by-side test for you.

The only source of anamorphics I've been able to find is from this place.

I wish I could afford the set myself but, with grad school and all, I've got to settle and start with a solid Nikon set for now.
