Anamorphic Mattebox

Can I get away with 4x5.65 matte box on a red mx with anamorphics? 35mm is the widest.

Probably but it depends on the mattebox, some stick out farther than others. But I've shot 35mm anamorphic features with a 4x5 mattebox -- and the anamorphic area of the Red sensor is smaller than 4-perf 35mm anamorphic. The 35mm anamorphic is probably the one lens you should check with your 4x5 mattebox; it may have to use a shaved down clip-on 4x5.

35mm anamorphic on red one should be fine with a p size matte box. I've used an MB-19 with a 35mm anamorphic no problem.

Any chance this was with 2 filters and a 138mm in the rear? (I'm assuming this is the case, but want to be 99% sure that it wasn't pushed in a little extra) Always a fun time renting gear from out of town.

Lomo Square Fronts will work with 4x5.65 matt box. Even the 35mm

I can't speak to a fully loaded matte box, but if you are using a 138 filter, then that's the back one anyway, so the rest don't matter. I am pretty sure we were using a 138mm pola so no problem.
