Hi. I was wondering if anyone has experience with anamorphic adaptors used on Nikon lenses on the Red 1 MX?

I have a shoestring budget indie feature coming up and I am crazy about anamorphic's but can't afford to rent them for this project.
I was wondering which adaptor would work best with my set of Nikon glass. I assume a 2x squeeze would be way to wide aspect ratio on these lenses at the desqueeze resulting in 3.55:1?
Does anyone have some tests or footage from 1.33x adaptors used on stills glass on 16:9 sensor?

Any tips or advice will be much appreciated

Kind regards

Justus

I purchased a FM module which converts dual focus anamorphics like that to single focus which is a necessity!
This is a link to some footage I shot on the Dragon with the FM lens to do rack focus using the cinelux anamorphic pojector lens. The cinelux is a bit too clean and doesnt flare very easily.

This is the anamorphic lens inside the FM lens

Heres a link to the lens adapter that I use. It doesnt fit all projection lenses but it does for quite a few.

Theres also the Rectilux which I dont have but it's another one on the market that does the same thing. Here's the brochure for it to show you which projector lenses it can be paired with in which model.

Best of luck!

Agreed,

I was looking into that as well. Looks really good, however it would make using a mattebox difficult since the focus gear is at the end of the lens. However, if thats not a big deal I'd say that might be a good way to go as well to use with projector lenses. Good thing about the projector lenses is there are a ton of them out there and they are pretty cheap.

There's also this thing: http://www.slrmagic.co.uk/slr-magic-rangefinder-cine-adapter.html

Looks like it could be a much better choice than the FM lens. Lighter, smaller and has focus gear.

I have been interested in the slr Anamorphot 2x as well, but I would be interested if it would be still usable on a 35mm or 40/45mm prime lens, if youre shooting in 4:3 (or wider) then the edges wont really matter for a scope ratio. Only thing holding me back is that it flares a little too easy for my taste, thats why I'm still holding on on my Isco-Optic Ultrastar.

Iscorama isn't 2x though right?

I have the new slr Magic rangefinder with a 2x Kowa B&H lens. Still testing but seems pretty cool. So far I've only used it with a zeiss contax 50mm, going to try the 85 next when I get some time

Edit: i'm driving now but you can check my Facebook for a few pics

The ISCORAMA 16: 9, I just put on sale one, rare séries that gives a x1.33 anamorphic (for 2:40 CinemaScope).
