So Samsung has finally jumped on the "gaming PC" bandwagon as of last year and today, they announced a new line of gaming notebooks. That line is called Odyssey and it features some very interesting things on the high-end 17-inch model.
1. Triple storage options. Two M2 and one SATA, with up to 2TB of pre-configured storage. You can upgrade to whatever you want down the line, easy peasy, just by popping open the bottom. No poking through layers of PCBs, removing the keyboard, or sticking a paperclip in a pin-hole to make it come apart. Just simple 1-2-3 upgrades.
2. 64GB of DDR4. That's right, 64GB.
3. Intel i7 Quad-core CPU, with a single USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 port. Four USB 3 ports for all your current peripherals. Advanced cooling system to keep it all cool.
Unfortunately, the display offerings are currently locked at Full HD, but there are UHD panels in development and expected to land later this year. The Nvidia GPU has not been announced yet, but it is expected to be the upcoming refresh of Pascal and possibly a 1080 variant.
Designed for gaming, yes. But certainly a potent portable field media station, if Samsung offers the right customization options later this year and they may even step up and create something a bit more "professional" to counter Apple, if there is demand.
