An AMD Motherboard supporting Thunderbolt 3 add-in Cards

Yep FireWire was beaten by the inferior USB2.0 because of the license system(price), not because of better interfaces.
Same thing started to happen to thunderbolt vs. USB3.x, luckely intel stopped asking a license fee since 2018.
Still wondering why intel tried to kill it's on thunderbolt interface by asking heavy license fees.

Based on what Intel's engineers said, the extremely difficult approval process and license fees were to control Thunderbolt compatibility far better than USB. Intel did not want Users getting a bad perception of TB at the start with various 3rd party issues that plague USB each time a new standard releases such as when USB 3 released 3rd party. Those myriad of issues took a couple years to sort out and Intel had to solve some of them with their own USB 3 controller. However it finally looks like they realized Thunderbolt development and adoption was suffering from the barriers so they finally are opening the technology up. Should be interesting with the marriage to USB C 3.1 how the TB development path continues with bandwidth and performance.

Misha, just because you do not use it doesn't mean support is declining.

Asus, Gigabyte, AsRock, Supermicro all offer Thunderbolt on a number of their boards.

Dell and HP offer it on their workstation lines of desktops and laptops and probably their consumer ones too, but i don't keep track of those.

And of course Apple supports it on all or nearly all their machines.

Shhh let him live in his own little world.

That is what I was looking forward to...

They told us it would come and now the first is announced.

Even I, might start using Thunderbolt3 in the foreseeable future

But it is still only used in some intel(most apple) systems.
Lets hope it gets some more momentum...

I've looked around and it seems that a bunch of Thunderbolt 3 peripherals/adapters will be hitting the market shortly, mostly targeting laptop users. Not much is happening on the desktop front, but Computex is just around the corner, so we'll have to wait and see what new mobos/add-in cards pop up.

And it's faster than on intel.
