  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

AMD themselves say that "AMD balanced platforms, comprised of CPUs, GPUs and chipsets, provide a great environment for Adobe Creative Suite 5 (CS5)."
But i'm not sure if that is backed up by any test data

I know their might be advantage using an nvidia cuda fx5800, but would this work on a tyan motherboard and with amd opterons??? What would the extra cores really generate as realtime performance?? any ideas???

Intel Core CPUs include the SSE4.2 instruction set which dramatically improve performance in many processes like rendering/previewing. AMD instead uses SSE4a. Thus, Intel CPUs are preferred for CS5. At the same time, CS5 scales well with multi-core CPUs and AMD's strategy of offering so many cores for the same money might just make up for its architectural deficiencies. Whether it does, I don't know, someone will have to perform benchmarks.

What about using amd's new 12 core opterons with a quadway tyan MB, would this work with cs5 , or is everything still Intel optimised until lately????

any info on this would be appreciated. It could give you 48 cores, on 1 MB, wich would reduce render times and such I guess..

We don't do anything to hurt AMD. We have a few engineers with AMD machines. More cores the better in general. Cuda needs nvidia. We do use SSE for our optimizations.
