Ive been using amazon for a while..

recently ordered a big 1500wt battery backup (RACK MOUNT)...

just got it.. the entire face plate is broken, there is no rackmount hardware.. its dusty as hell...

whats my recourse? Ive contacted the seller but I havent heard back..

is amazon good with returns of damaged/false described items?

is it directly from amazon warehouse or a reseller through amazon? they are typically pretty good about returns/exchanges, will send you return label and everything.

had an incident once where I bought something from amazon and forgot about it, remembered about it around 2 months later AFTER it was said to have shipped, went to look for the seller, no longer existent. Emailed amazon and told them it was unacceptable etc. and they refunded the money.
So they are pretty damn good and I think they'd like to keep a good image, if the reseller doesn't want to budge talk to Amazon then

I bought a 1500w rackmount UPS off of eBay. It came half wrapped in old-school printer paper in a cardboard box. The paper wasn't crumpled like the brown paper that Red uses. The box was completely mangled. I had to use a hammer to bend the rack ears back into place. Luckily the unit works fine.

They are very good about things like this. Also, if you used a credit card this may give you added protection if you don't get joy from Amazon.

Maybe have photographic evidence ready just in case.

Amazon will back you, but first you have to deal with the seller. I rarely buy from third-party sellers on Amazon. You're no better off doing that than you are on eBay or most anywhere else. If you buy direct from Amazon, they're awesome to deal with and really take care of their customers. Amazon "Marketplace" third-parties are hit or miss. I generally prefer eBay for peer to peer transactions because there usually is pictures and direct communication between buyer and seller.

For what it's worth, I had excellent results from peter_pan, an Amazon seller who sold me a Canon Pro9000 printer. This printer has a $400 rebate for anyone who bought a Canon DSLR, so there are a lot of unused ones floating around with the UPC removed for the rebate. There are several people who resell these printers. Mine arrived on time and in perfect new condition, but mysteriously with a missing green cartridge. When I notified the seller, he told me to buy a cartridge at retail and send him the bill; he then sent me a check. The green cartridge turns out to be the hardest one to purchase at retail, because it has so little use (mine has yet to show detectable usage after almost all the others have been replaced). I suspect that's not a coincidence.

I picked him by selecting the cheapest merchant with high feedback, so apparently the feedback mechanism really works to keep at least some people honest. You may want to consider doing likewise.

I saved more than 50% on the price of the printer by buying it this way, and I could not have otherwise afforded it. Overall, though, I think for any kind of big-money project, you are better off dealing directly with Amazon. For low-budget filmmaking on a scrounger's budget, the money you save this way certainly helps.

Same issue here as others, been buying for Amazon for years, always happy, till I got the wrong part form a third party re-seler,
buy the time I got an answer was too late and Amazon refused to do anything about it, never heard again form the reseller either.

NEVER buy third party stuff form Amazon, if you are lucky and the part is the correct one and it is not broken, you are good,
if it isn't you are literally Screwed!!

That's surprising as Amazon is only as good as its reputation and word gets out quickly. Seems like they would have an iron fist over their marketplace sellers to maintain their good standing. Ignoring the problems that arise from the sale would be a detrimental mistake.

The seller is claiming he packaged it well, and says its up to me to contact ups or whatever.. the unit came in a old dell computer box, with no padding.. it was duct taped.. the whole front piece was off and dangling by the on/off connection wire. I fired it up, and the battery backup portion doesnt even work.. pull the plug and everything powers down.. the battery doesnt kick in...

I really hope amazon does something about this... its a 200.00 paper weight

Take pictures of everything, showing how it was packaged, any visible damage, etc.. Having shipped hundreds of thousands of $$$ over many years, I have found that any insurance paid for through UPS or FedEx isn't worth a crap when an item is improperly packed and shipped. Generally speaking, it isn't worth a crap at all. If no shipping insurance was purchased, then there's little recourse in that department. It is up to whoever contracted UPS (or whoever the shipping company) to make contact about damaged goods. The shipping contract is with whoever hired them and paid the shipping bill to them. Not the end recipient, even if done on your behalf. UPS will tell you this too, they will want to deal with whoever contracted their services and made payment for the shipment. So, if he printed the label and paid on his account, by his credit card or whatever, then he needs to ask what's up with UPS. And if he was a legit seller who cared about his item, reputation and customer(s), he would be willing to work with you. The fact that he's trying to dump this on you says just about all there is to say.

I bought a very cheap DSLR for time lapse purposes (still mode) from an Amazon third party re-seller two weeks ago.....still waiting, no answers to my emails.
Well at the end I ordered the camera from B&H...
