This is some of the best photography I have ever seen. A picture can really tell 1000 words.

What do people think of gregory crewdson? His work was a reference for the photography in ‘Revolutionary Road.’

Fantastic stuff...I'm a big fan - reminds me a lot of David Lynch. I love the way he makes his pictures look like stills from a film (using film lights, sets etc...even Hollywood actors on occasion!). Great magic hour stuff too...well worth checking out.

rockwell, hopper

Looking at this shot, I'd say he's a fan of Norman Rockwell.

funny you should mention

http://www.albrightknox.org/acquisitions/acq_2004/Crewdson.html

"Focusing frequently on the American suburban landscape, his carefully composed and dramatically lit photographs present strangely disquieting views of everyday life that one critic has described as being like a “demented Norman Rockwell.”"

after more research funny that i thought of Hopper

Photographer Gregory Crewdson shoots his still images as if he were Michelangelo Antonioni channeling Edward Hopper on a movie set.

I love Crewdsons images, bt there is something that bothers me about him.

He is a photographer, BUT -

he employs a DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY, Rick Sands, who lights everything and no doubt has a good deal to do with the framing.

How then is Crewdson a photographer, then? He comes up with a vague idea of how he wants the shot, explains it do his DP, wardrobe, set designer, etc. It seems to me that these people go largely uncredited.

I think he is more akin to a director, only a director of stills. That he should sign his name at the bottom as photographer seems rather unfair to me.

as a writer/producer/director of still images, however, he is fantastic. The work he and Rick Sands do is often very inspired.
