Like anyone here, I think Apple's response is late, but I am happy though. I've been using FCPX for the past 5 years and I think it's a great product (after 10.0.6). So we can all complain about their timing, but at least a lot of people here got the reaction they wanted and not the one they feared.
And I think it's pretty 'brave' for Apple, considering their reputation, to come out and publicly make these statements.

I have been switching to as many 3 platform apps as possible. All versions of DaVinci now run on Linux. For the price of a Mac Pro you could get a mac laptop and a Linux desktop.
